hi @PBCool, On occasion, I get these random 5minute disconnects. they are intermittant, sometime occuring 6 to 10 times a day, other times perhaps once or twice, and then there are periods when it's relatively stable with no disconnects.I don't believe there to be, maybe someone else can assist. What are you looking for?
Who is your ISP? Would you know if active ethernet or PON?hi @PBCool, On occasion, I get these random 5minute disconnects. they are intermittant, sometime occuring 6 to 10 times a day, other times perhaps once or twice, and then there are periods when it's relatively stable with no disconnects.
Over time, logging calls with my ISP, eventually turns out that they are related to DFA doing some type of project or maintenance. Very difficult to get anything concrete.
What is frustrating is that every time I log a call, I start from scratch, VUMA, the ISP don't look at anything historical - they check the line and everything is perfect. If I persist, they send out a Vuma team who checks my line signal and everything is fine, and they close the ticket, and so I go around in circles.
If pon do you use a PPPoE connection?I would guess it's a GPON connection? ISP=stem connect
What does STEM say about it? Realistically they should chase for resolution, maybe an ONT swap?
Maintenance on backhaul shouldn't created constant disconnections is my opinion. It would either drop for short periods and come back vs constant drops.they do push vuma, Vuma arrive, checks the ONT, checks the fibre signal, all is okay. they close the ticket. As mentioned, this is mostly to do with Vuma using DFA as a backhaul. DFA doing some type of maintenance or expansion in their manholes? But nothing concrete, only the symptoms (random 5min disconnects) sort of point to that explaination? the ISP understandably has limited visibility. My annoyance is Vuma seem to be completely unaware of the issue? Unable to troubleshoot the issue? Uninterested in trouhbleshooting the issue? Ignorant of the issue? Hence I started off by asking for Vuma representation... but yes, I doubt they would care at the customer level.
I'm guessing a small amount of Vuma's network use DFA, like in certain areas. All I can say is avoid Vuma is this is the case. (but yes, sometimes there isn't an option of mutiple FNOs - like in my case )
Thanks for your insight, what would you say the issue is?Maintenance on backhaul shouldn't created constant disconnections is my opinion. It would either drop for short periods and come back vs constant drops.

I'm in east of Joburg, It's area dependant, so I'd take a bet that DFA are involved somewhere in your backhaul in PE.What area are you in? I get these as well on Vuma in Port Elizabeth constantly. I’m on Cool Ideas but my friend is on Afrihost and gets it at the same time as me in a different area in PE. Vuma is the worst. The problem is you log the ticket. They want you to do the normal tests which shows everything is fine but on the money another drop happens.

DFA are involved one way or another with most of Vumatels network, so as I say, it's unlikely due to them specifically. If you're in PE, that could be bursts of packet loss, either last mile or backhaul or longhaul.I'm in east of Joburg, It's area dependant, so I'd take a bet that DFA are involved somewhere in your backhaul in PE.
I'm guessing in general if you're on Vuma's network, it should be relatively stable. if DFA are involved, you're going to have poor service.

Lol, I disagree.DFA are involved one way or another with most of Vumatels network, so as I say, it's unlikely due to them specifically. If you're in PE, that could be bursts of packet loss, either last mile or backhaul or longhaul.
Vumatel wouldn't get lit services from DFA due to traffic levels required. Longhaul on the other hand could play a role.

Well as mentioned when the maintenance of this kind, either rehabilitation of fibres etc would typically interrupt things for short periods and then back to normal. For ongoing flaps the only thing it would be is something wrong with a dark pair provided to Vumatel. Or it is a lit service dropping, again maintenance shouldn't be affecting it consistently.Lol, I disagree.
During the DFA's network freeze, I got uptime of +2 weeks
Screen shot I took during the December holidays;
Before the 4th Dec, 24 link downs over 3 or 4 days. after 5th Dec, uptime +10 days, no disconnects.

Their network freeze lifts on the 15th Jan 2024, and the numerous disconnects continue.
I'm going to try get connectivity to my neighbours router to try confirm if the disconnects are site and ISP independent.
