Hi there,

Sorry if this has been discussed somewhere else, ive had a browse and could not find exactly what im looking for, so thought id throw out a question. So ive been getting alot of emails that Vumatel finished in our area, and it was quite exciting. Next up was the complex itself and there was alot of people doing their thing for a while. I prepped my ISP package i wanna go with and had everything set. Then i phoned them for the order and they informed me that our complex went with Openserve and our body corp has not signed anything. Doing some digging i found out that its true and the body corp decided against Vuma because of the elaborate digging up of driveways and things they would have wanted to do. Now im kinda stuck that my ISP and package i wanted is no longer available on Openserve. The closest one is R200 more expensive for 75% the speed.

TLDR - Ive rumors its possible for Vuma to piggyback on existing infrastructure if they have a backbone in the area. Is that possible?

Thank you

No one can share ducts with Telkom, they don't allow it. They actually took Vodacom to court (and won) when Vodacom pulled fiber in their ducts.

Unless there is existing ducts spare to your property and inside the complex that Vuma (or others) can use, there's only two options available to you. Use Telkom (OpenServe), or the Complex & Driveways needs to be trenched.

Thought as much. Thanks for the clarification

Burn your body corporate members' cars. Going OpenServe over Vumatel is like picking a Datsun Go when you had the option of a GTR

Yeah. I don't know why people are so dead set against trenching... Especially in Complexes / Estates.

With a bit of ingenuity, the reinstatement of the trenching can actually add quite a lot towards the appearance of the place... Especially if it's a bit more on the older side and in need of a nice face lift...

Our estates made the same choice, literally the only estate in the area that went with OpenServe while Vuma is literally installing across the bridge, same problem with ducts.

You can be happy that Telkom dropped prices as our 100mpbs uncapped was R2600 before and now comes in at R1600.

Learnt just to stop moaning about it as their is literally nothing one can do.

I emailed Vuma asking about the piggyback and it only works one direction the offering, I.e. Vuma people can take OpenServe as a ISP if they have Vuma Fibre avaliable (not sure why anyone would do that) but Telkom people cannot choose Vuma packages on Telkom Fibre lines.
