Hi everyone,

Can anybody perhaps provide insight as to the Vumatel Ftth outage in the Vaal. Seems like there is a big portion of Sasolburg , Vaalpark and southern Vanderbijl , that is offline at present? Mweb merely gives a reply that it is an outage and can't disclose detail nor uptime ETA. Services went offline yesterday at 16:15. Just poor communication - Vumatel and MWEB don't respond to social media messages and the support doesn't provide anything useful. Blinking red light on the PON.

Thanks,

I couldn't find out anything either and support just says engineers are attending.
Pretty bad. Just call it - equipment failure/theft of infrastructure/cut cables or something that the clientele knows what's happening. Silence can quickly kill the subscription. Openserve is online at present at least.

It's once a week now at this point, I'm just going to move to Openserve.

"I have spoken to the Vumatel workers near North School they are busy reconnecting and replacing fibre, some or other contractor working at North school damaged the fibre. When speaking to the Vuma guys the one guy said everything should be up and running by 20:00 then I spoke to another guy who is actually connecting the fibre and he said by 01:00 tomorrow morning. So I don’t believe we will have any internet tonight."

That's the update I could gather.

Can you maybe disclose where they are working exactly? Eric Louw?
Also interesting - how Vaalpark is also down? They had ftth before we had. I do not think Sasolburg pulls from Vaalpark ; it should be other way around? Something doesn't add up.

I think the network is just shite and if anything anywhere is broken everyone in the area goes down.

It's at the school itself, giant trenched hole, fences lying on the ground, as far as I know that area has been without power for the last 2 days or something and I'm assuming with the digging trying to find the fault the fibre was dug through as well.

So they have to wait for the people to fix the electricity, then they can fix the fibre.

Much appreciated and it doesn't surprise me ; lets hope for a fix within next 12-18 hours.

This is all basically my uncle's neighbour's sister said but apparently someone's ISP told them Vumatel said 48 hours ETA.

This is the exact location where they’re working. Maybe someone can drive there and find out from the technician on site what the status is.
Dropped pin

Restored is a strong word for whatever this is, this image took more than 10 seconds to upload.

Thanks - incredible that the heartbeat of vumatel for Sasolburg/Vaalpark gets impacted by a cut via Waterson st. I would think via Eric louw?

Uploading speed is nowhere! I'm on a 50/50 and getting 49/0.1 , M-WEB. Guy nextdoor is on Axxess 100/100 and getting 96/3. Vumatel's tech team is really showing their "class" :(

And when chatting with Vox online support, they just tell you that according to Vumatel the problem has been sorted…

0.75Mbps upload on a 50/50 line with 6.46% loss over the last 30 hours.

So they went yes the internet is connected, pat themselves on the back for a job well done and went home.

I went to the site where this mess took place. They have got a massive problem. The armouring of the fibre cable had to be removed during this repair process , fair enough , but now it just looks like they spliced the entire lot and took insulation tape and covered the entire mess. No steel armouring that went back - imagine when you pile that sand/ground , back , ontop of it. The glass tubes inside that fibre is going to break and put us back to square one. Going to show our Fibre specialist @ work the pictures tomorrow (our mpy makes fibre cables in irony! , just not for vumatel) .

I'm done with Vumatel, the network in the Vaal is horrible and the people running it are clearly incompetent.

I don't think there has been a single month this year where there hasn't been at least one issue.

Glad I held out till openserve (telkom) did their thing in the area, theres been contant complains about vumatel in the sasol/Vaalpark area.

Just told M-WEB to catch a wakeup and push Vumatel for action. That exposed cable should be properly reinforced/armoured before that ground is put back ontop of it. The contractor should get his arse kicked for destroying the cable. Wonder if Vumatel did have updated maps circulated to any contractors who would want to trench/work on power infrastructure. Looks more like a big water pipeline than a power line? I think i should pi$$ off our Ward16 D.A. guy to do some detective work.
