I believe Vumatel have dropped their prices and I just received my Vox account and zero price decrease.

Are there any ISP`s using Vumatel who decreased their prices? (something inline with Openserve ISP pricing)

Yip, Vumatel has become seriously expensive, after a few years of inflation beating increases.

Vox are shifting speeds, not price Still su though , thinking of shifting.

Vumatel, our fibre network operator and the owner of the fibre network infrastructure in your area, will be implementing line speed adjustments as of 1 July 2021.

After this date, 20/10Mbps will be the minimum fibre line speed available on Vumatel's network.

We will automatically upgrade these line speeds, in keeping with Vumatel's service changes, at no additional cost!

The line speed changes are as follows:

  • 10/10Mbps will be upgraded to an asymmetrical 20/10Mbps
  • 20/20Mbps will be upgraded to a symmetrical 50/50Mbps
  • 50/5Mbps will be upgraded to a symmetrical 50/50Mbps
  • 100/10Mbps will be upgraded to a symmetrical 100/100Mbps
  • 200/20Mbps will be upgraded to a symmetrical 200/200Mbps
  • 1000/100Mbps Special will be upgraded to an asymmetrical 1000/200Mbps
  • 1000/100Mbps will be upgraded to an asymmetrical 1000/500Mbps

Please note, as we invoice in advance, the new line speed descriptions will appear on your August 2021 invoice - in keeping with the changes coming into effect from 1 July 2021.

Not good to see that VOX will not be implementing a price decrease like Afrihost and Axxess did. Both ISP's increased speeds and give a good price reduction as well. Afrihost charge R897 for 50mbps and R997 for 100mbps. Axxess 50mbps R 895 and R 995 for 100mbps. Great prices and speed for under R1000 per month for uncapped unshaped unthrottled No FUP internet. You also receive a great router for free. Just R1495.00 installation fee if you do not have an existing fiber line in your house. Not sure if a fee is charged for migrations from one ISP to them.

I see Vox advertising lower priced deals on their website. R899 vs R959 I am paying on 50/5 line.
Also considering moving to another ISP that is cheaper or faster line for same amount.

Generally they do charge an activation fee if you migrate from one ISP to another, for an existing installation. Some ISPs will absorb this cost.

If you're a Vox customer on Vumatel and don't get charged their 'new customer' pricing for your next invoice, you should definitely consider moving to another ISP or contact them to demand the new pricing.

Vox latest FTTH prices
20/10 -> R699.00
50/50 -> R899.00

200/200 -> R1249.00

You actually have to re-sign for the new price, I enquired about the price change and my invoice stating that i'm still paying R1199 for 100/100. They replied with a new contract to sign as if its a new product. I see now I will be billed the R1199 and then refunded the difference end of July. Lots of work and going on previous experience they going to make a f up somewhere along the line.

If it's seen as a new contract, doesn't that restart the clawback period?

I seriously hope not, but i'm kinda tied in as i'm doing telephony with them and most other ISP's in my area have struggled and VOX has been pretty good (albiet i have to do their freaking admin most of the tim)

How do other ISPs struggle in the area?

I've seen multiple posts in our neighborhood groups regarding connectivity and latency issues on other ISP's mainly MWEB users though

Typically speaking if an ISP has an issue and it's related to the area this would affect all ISPs, other issues would be down to something to do with the customer and possibly their setup. Or the ISP in question has a general issue but that again would affect all customers in the region.

Either way it's typically not down to something that is area relative as ISPs all interconnect at the same place and use the same underlying infrastructure.

I think it does, I asked them why the reduction was not applied to my contract automatically, and was told you have to request it. I was then sent a new contract and the following wording is on it:

"50/50 Mbps Uncapped Fat Pipe Fibre Bundle. Month to Month Contract.
Includes: 50/50 Mbps Fibre Line Uncapped Fat Pipe Data
Free to use Wifi Router Setup of R2733.00 (Clawed back in full if service is cancelled within 12 months)"

I am not accepting the new contact and will be jumping ship when my initial 12 months with them is over in November. I think this is a very sneaky way of doing business.

That I understand, the issue reported in the group however all points to one ISP at a time, we had 3 or four occasions when it was vumatel and the entire area was affected.

The clawback won't hold up in a agreement post the initial 12 unless they send you a second device or do a new installation.

My ISP (Buzybuy) increased the speed to 50/50 and reduced the price from R999 to R949. I am on Vumatel fibre

I think this has a lot to do with the 12 month contract.

I'm month-to-month and always have been... For me, the entire process was a mail requesting a package change.

The whole thing took about 24 hours behind the scenes and my August invoice reflects the change with a pro-rata at the new price from the date of the switch.
