Vumatel sucks!

Vumatel do not provide the packages... they are merely an infrastructure provider, and they do not stop any other provider from laying infrastructure in your area.

Monopolistic laws do not unfortunately come into play in this instance.
Yeah but they're a shitty infrastructure provider. They haven't made any progress in fixing the bugs and issues on their side causing endless frustration for the consumers, and the ISPs can't do anything about that.

What bugs and issues causing endless frustrations for the consumers?

My vumatel connection has been pretty much rock solid for the few years I've had it.

I haven't had problems with my physical line either. But I've had tons of problems when changing ISP. Things also get horribly messed up when I moved house (all their fault). And it's about impossible to have more than one ISP connection (which is downright easy on other infrastructure providers). If you never had problems, then great, doesn't change that they're a shitty infrustructure provider compared to all the others. They also have no feedback mechanisms from consumers (ISPs will close tickets that's not related to them) and don't care either, so they just never improve.

So you have had process problems with them, similar to the issues people have with Openserve really... Cool.

As for the multi-ISP issue, well yes thats understandable given how Vumatel chose to structure their system. Its not a PPoE model at all. Your "line" is assigned to an ISP effectively, you aren't given an account to login to.

Vumatel does suck!
My download speed has gone from 100mbps to 0.25mbps and the only response I can get from Afrihost is, "escalated to vumatel"...."escalated to vumatel".
I can't publish my work because I need to download a bunch of very big updates first.

It just feels so consequences free for everyone, except me.
The problem is the communication between ISPs and the Infrastructure Providers. One cant even get a hold of Vumareach directly. Afrihost will continue escalating and escalating and that impacts their customer satisfaction. Vuma does not care about Afrihosts clients... Why should they?

Would've been so much better if we could get a hold of them directly

VUMATEL are a problem because they are too arrogant to see that they will kill themselves in the end when people realize that they are being fleeced!

What Vumatel did was actually genius.

It's the company that bought them with all of their infrastructure debt that are trying to break even and eventually start turning over a profit.

I would guess Telkom is more cash flush and put some of their fiber down out of capital investment rather than financed with debt. Telkom's mobile and fixed line business still generates healthy cash flow for them so if they plowed that profit into new fiber they would be at a huge advantage over say Vumatel which is mainly a fiber provider and had to finance their whole operation from debt.

I have great sympathy for this and all your other posts, FluffyT. My sentiments exactly. I am in the very same position with Metrofibre.

Metro fibre is moving everyone up one tier 1st of June.

As for the vumatel clients, it comes across as a bit childish. It seems like the argument, other people have cheaper internet so I deserve it too.

You're welcome to join us plebs on LTE still waiting...

I can make the same argument, "other areas have fibre so I deserve it too". Not a good argument.

Will Vumatel also double their speeds in the near future like the other FNOs?
They will probably hike prices and keep the same speeds...I know building a fiber network cost millions to build, and the FNO wants to make the investment back, but rather than charging prices higher than other FNO's, why not make prices more affordable and get more customers that way - they will pay the network costs off faster - but keep prices high and people will not use you as a FNO - except for those that can afford it. My argument is, make it cheaper and get more people to use your FNO and you will get a return on your investment sooner.

Vumatel has a monopoly in most areas. Until other FNOs lay in the same areas and they lose customers they'll probably keep the current pricing model. One or two areas won't make a difference. There is no reason to drop the price if you're the sole provider.

I'm pretty sure the only reason Metrofibre finally dropped their prices is because Openserve started affecting too many of their areas.

Fiber still provides a better overall Internet experience than anything else in most cases so people will keep paying even if expensive.

Ya pretty much hey, Vuma is the only FNO in my area and there is NO way in hell I’m going back to a 3mb ADSL line after experiencing 1gig. They can take my money for now. I’m lucky I can afford it, not everyone can.
