Why don't ISPs cover the installation fee for Vumatel, but they'll cover the cost for Openserve and Octotel? Afrihost will cover the installation cost of R1725.00 for Octotel but not the R1725.00 for Vumatel. Afrihost is not the only ISP that will not cover VUMAs cost. WebAfrica and Cellc will also not cover VUMAs cost, but will gladly cover the other infrastructure provider's cost.

I'm sure the actual cost the ISPs pay is less than their published retail cost. This is fine because the client still get the benefit of not paying that cost. Can it be that Vuma didn't want to discount their rate to ISPs. As far as I know VUMA is the only infrastructure provider that the ISPs don't want to pay for.

I'm with Afrihost and I don't feel that i'm being treated fairly. If they are willing to cover this cost for someone else that pays the same as I do, I want the same deal. Paid Vuma and approached Afrihost to ask if they will not be willing to cover some of the cost. Even if its R50, but computer says no...
 
Vumatel charge the R1725 to ISPs as well as a connection fee of R999, the other guys don't do this. So the effective costs with installation+connection+router+courier, it adds up and to offer this for free without a contract isn't really feasible.
 
Thanks PBCool. I thought the activation fee was an ISP fee, but you say its an Fibre Infraco fee. So R1725+R1007 where as other infraco's have a lower activation fee? Afrihost still cover the R2300 for Openserve though.

Wasn't the idea of allocating neighborhoods to one infrastructure provider only to make it more cost effective? I guess cost effective for the companies only. Now they have a monopoly in their designated areas and they determine their pricing. Take it or leave it. Consumer getting it up the bum again?
 
Nah the R999 applies if you change from ISP to ISP as well. The cost to terminate into a house is actually much more than the R1725 so it's a model to try recover those costs. Openserve install isn't currently that high.

Yeap on a clawback basis, same with any of the other providers. Basically it's a 6/12 month contract.
 
I have the same issue. Vumatel is busy with the installation in our neighbourhood and say they should be live by the end of the month. I can't find ISPs that will cover the installation costs. I have been with Vox for years on ADSL and now they want to charge me R1725 installation and R1008 activation to upgrade to Fibre. Why would I pay almost R3k to just to stay with the same ISP that I have been with for years? I would rather go to someone that will cover the cost for me, even if it is just a percentage, atleast I get something in return for choosing them.

I see Telkom is covering Vumatel CPE costs and activation, yes it is R50pm more than Vox, but activation R1008 + installation R1725 = R2733 / R50 = 4.5 years before it really starts costing me more.... problem is it's Telkom...

I've also been weighing up my options, however, I decided to bite the bullet and go with Vox. I've dealt with them for many years and I've only had a good experience.

I'd hate to choose an ISP that covers the installation costs, however their service is terrible and I end up paying more monthly and not being able to use the service.

If you want Vox and don't want to pay the Vox activation cost, perhaps take a 24 month contract with them?
 
The problem with a contract is that I am most likely going to move within the next 12-18, maybe sooner if all works out, thats why I can't go with a contract. Otherwise I would gladfully sign a contract as like I said, I have been with Vox for years and would prefer to stay with them... but not at a cost of nearly R3k.
 
Why not delay installing it by a couple months and save up?
 
The cost is not the problem, I just don't see why I should pay it if I can get it free elsewhere. My other option is to stay on ADSL untill I move and then get a fibre contract. I am not going to pay R3k now and then again when I move.

I am wiling to pay the R1008 activation fee, but not both installation and activation.

So you want them to install the fibre termination device and a fibre cable in your house for free? That equipment does cost money and has nothing to do with the ISP.
Nothing is free in this world unfortunately. (Except the air you breath of course)
 
Nothing in life is free, that's why you pay a monthly fee for the service. What I am saying is that if you want someone's business, then you need to be wiling to offer them something in return, in this case free / reduced activation / installation costs. I am more than wiling to pay back the costs if I cancel within 12 months like everyone requires, I don't have a problem with that. I have been a Vox user for years and have recommended them to everyone that has ever asked me for a recommendation regarding an ISP. Why should I have to fork out R3k for them to keep my business. Basically they want me to keep them as an ISP but I have to carry the costs of the installation and activation, so basically they want my business for FREE...?

Like I said above I am more than wiling to pay the R1008 activation fee if they provide free installation, but I am not going to carry all the costs just so they can keep getting another R1k from me each month.
 
Be glad it's only R1725, getting that installed at a business costs between R10 000 and R40 000 depending on the length of cable...

I can tell you now it does cost Vumatel more than R1725 to get that stuff installed anyway.

So just choose a ISP that includes that then, or go with a ISP that offer free activation and only pay the R1725

Like I said that is what I am looking at, I just don't know all the other ISPs that well because I have never waivered from Vox all these years, never needed to. I am doing my due diligence to find out who will be the best to go for, I am just upset that I won't be able to stay with Vox as they were my first (and only) choice. A lot of ISPs offered free installation up unitll the end of last year, Vox offered it up to end of November, I never signed up as they only started the fibre installation in Decemeber in our area and it is stil a while to go before they go live. If I knew they were going to stop offering free installation I would've signed up back then already. So maybe I am just pissed off that I missed out...

Yeah I get what you are saying, there were quite a few specials on last year with free installation.
To be honest, most ISP's that do include it might not be the best in my opinion. They usually fall under ISP's that throttle/shape traffic (Probably not all though)
 
Yeah, I'm struggling with this exact same issue, if I go through Openserve, zero installation fees - bit kak really
 
I just checked Axxess' website, they have free installation on every installer except for Vumatel.
