I don't like local soccer. It is simply not up to scratch compared with overseas soccer. It's far worse compared to local rugby, even with all their drunken boepens fans and their double-cabs.

There is a very good reason why overseas clubs pay multi-million Euro amounts for players. Heck, I reckon a SA player get more to play a domestic game for his overseas club than he gets for playing for his country.

I'll support the SA team when they are any good. They are not. Yet somehow every 'fan' and idiot involved with SAFA or the FIFA organising committee, naively proclaims on every occasion that "Bafana is gonna win it". They are in for some serious disappointment, where after lack of transformation and Apartheid will be blamed.

So you'll support Bafana when they are winning.
You can't only sing when your winning buddy:)

There is a lot wrong with local soccer but things are improving. The level is improving. There just seems to be no pride when it comes to our country's soccer. But Rugby and Cricket is a totally different story. When last did The Proteas win a tournament, yet they get the full backing from South Africans.

Noise pollution is noise pollution, no matter what the other factors are.

Have you heard of the air horn, stadium horn, refillable horn or pump horn? These have been banned from stadiums because of the noise they make, and more importantly, because it makes the game unpleasant to watch.

If you sat next to 60 or so people at a match with mouth organs who did not know how to play them then you would also be complaining.

Or, just answer me this: How is the current use of the vuvuzella at a soccer game different from an annoying Taxi hooter?

P.S. We only complain in this forum. We complain about every thing. Wake up.

There has always and will always be "noise" at soccer games. In England they have "noisy" songs about gays and the people who died in the Munich air disaster. IN Spain they have those "noisy" drums and "dangerous" firecrackers. This is football guys, not golf or tennis. I can see now why Ster Kenikor thought that watching football matches at the cinema would be a good dea. You guys will probably enjoy that.

Asking soccer fans to take away vuvuzela's whould be like asking Liverpool fans not to sing You'll never walk alone.

Er, this is another in a string of ridiculous posts by you. Quit while you're just marginally behind...;)

The Man U thing is just plain fscking silly and childish and is indicative of why the football section is rampant with the hooligans. K@k attitude again.

Our game has not improved - it has got worse. We used to win tournaments btw ;)

Er, the Proteas haven't lost a tournament in ages. You need to expand your sporting knowledge a little. Our cricket and rugby teams are #1 in the world...;)

When last did SA win an International Tournament was what I said. I cant remember the last time to be honest :)
Theres a difference between being ranked number 1 and actually winning tournamnets. Liverpool are ranked number 1 in Europe at the moment even though they last won the Cup four years ago.

I don't care about other countries. I support my country.

But, you never answered my question.

How is the current use of the vuvuzella at a soccer game different from an annoying Taxi hooter?

People who complain are the ones who never attend local matces.
Now that the stars are here these people suddenly want to complain.
The vuvuzela's have always been there, now you want the fans to change it to suite you? Stick to watching English, Italian and Spanish football. Or put your TV on mute.

My 2cents...

Have to disagree with you. I have attended many local and SA international matches over the years and find it irritating every single time. I always find myself amongst supporters who continuously blow them right in my ear. My ears ringing for the whole game. I'm surprised I haven't heard about any violence over these things as I always find myself on the brink of giving the guy behind me a good kicking.

Watching it on TV doesn't bother me at all, it's just when you at the stadium itself.

I don't get that poolmania. I'm the other way around. At the stadium its a great atmosphere. Especially at the Ajax Games when the Band joins in. You have to get involved with the funn man. Dont just sit there watching.

You evidently do not watch much else other than football. This is like me asking you when England last won a football test series. The two sports' competitions are worlds apart.

More than just that, your question is stupid - we are afforded the chance to watch our SA rugby and cricket teams win, regardless of whether they are playing a world cup or not - the same can't be said for our football team. But that doesn't change the fact that I will still support Bafana Bafana.

But we digress - the vuvuzelas serve absolutely no purpose. As has been posted already, they have no historical or cultural basis in SA football, they serve no purpose apart from making a noise - songs, drums and other instruments serve a purpose, whether it be to invoke a beat which is chanted to, or to sing a team's song. The vuvuzela is just plan fscking stupid. And extremely annoying when 10,000 people are blowing on them as well...

Perhaps it has something to do with the support? Having 30 000 people blowing a trumpet incessantly without any let up is pointless and does not show support for any team. Cheering a rugby team or cricket team when they are approaching a try line or readying for a kick or approaching a century or bowling a hattrick ball adds to the game and can actually spur a player on. Even a quiet crowd speaks volumes.

Have you guys noticed the only time this forum talks about sa soccer is when they complain?

Never anything positive to say(except for capetownguy with his pics). Ask yourself why is this?

I have repeatedly tried to get some local soccer topics going but get almost no response. The only time people respond is when they want to complain.90% of the poeple who complain never go to local matches. If they did they would realise it's not all about blowing a vuvuzela for 90 mins.

Assuming we don't watch local footy because we don't talk about it is ludicrous. In my place, I need to sacrifice watching Chelsea to make way for the Pirates/Chiefs/etc supporters who frequent my place. I think the level is amateurish at best and not worth the money being paid for it.

Having said that - I still think vuvuzlas are the devil's work. Irritating and serving no purpose except to piss people with working eardrums off.

I watched a game between two Irish clubs when I was younger. The Irish crowd almost never cheers or yells. They just sit there and occasionally utter the words "Augh, for fsck-sakes ref".
In saying that, watching bowls with only birds chirping is better than watching football here with that constant trumpet-farting in your ears.

Soccer supporteers are well known for their boorish cacophony (and trampling one another to death) - this is merely the African flavour.
How does it differ really from "Olaaay-Ole-Ole-Ole"?
It doesn't sound like a wet fart in a drainpipe.

Of coarse I enjoy myself with the group of friends. I just find those things irritating and a nuisance. Otherwise, I usually have a good day out. I would enjoy it more if they didn't exist and we all just sang songs throughout the game.

Bwaaahahahaha. How does it differ really from "Olaaay-Ole-Ole-Ole"? Bwaaahahahahaha.

That's like asking: How does a submarine differ from a Toyota Corolla.

The sound of voices singing in harmony cannot be compared to a blast of noise.

+1. And they do sing a lot. Pity you can't hear in order to learn the words so you can sing along.

Off topic perhaps, but why is it that people at a public event forget how to use a toilet? Heaven forbid you don't get the runs at a soccer game since taking a leak induces vomiting...
