Does anyone know anything good or bad about the Jetta 4 2.3L V5?

The V5 motor is basically a VR6 with one less cylinder. Anybody know anything about these engines or the Jetta that I should know about before buying one? Apparently, it has a cam chain, so no expensive cambelt services to worry about.

The only faults I have heard about are MAF sensors that go bad and possibly a temperature sender unit. Some coil packs are also known to fail.

Where could I service this vehicle besides VW (who probably charge a fortune). I'm in Centurion and Pretoria CBD.

A delicious car. Just do your own servicing if you can. Parts are bloody ridiculous.

I've been advised once to stay away from the V5s. Apparently they were discontinued back in the day. Something about factory defects and hard to get parts. I'm not too sure really, but I took the advice nonetheless.

They were expensive to maintain, but bloody nice cars. Being VW they were never over discounted, trust me on that one!

Get a good one and you have a friend for life! :D

How about the 1.9 TDi Jetta IV? Has a well balanced 85KW diesel mill with the same interior spec as the V5.

I need me some 5 cylinder sound. That's the only reason I want the V5.

Unless I go Volvo S60 for about the same price (R80 000).

Otherwise if none of these are a good idea I'll just be bored and buy a 1.6 polo or something.

5-Cylinder sound?

R80,000 S60?

Rather buy a Jordan scooter.

Last year in the used review section of Car magazine they reviewed the Jetta4 as a used option. PM me if you want me to scan it and email it to you. Can't recall anything bad specific to the V5 model.

Had a look yesterday, I only have issues back to October 2008. I think my brother has my older CAR mags - will get it from him this weekend.

i have the 125kw jetta v5, great car. only problem so far is the temperature sensor that goes nuts

Thirsty, thirsty, thirsty..... did I mention it is thirsty?

Parts are ridiculous - find out about coil pack prices as some go as early as every 30 000km. MAF's were R3500 last I looked.

You could go S40 T5

I guess this is my qeue to say what we've all been waiting for. It sounds to me like that V5 is worse than an Alfa...strange!

For SOUND you can go for the 156 2.5 V6 and makes more kw than that fat ugley jetta who's headlights almost ALWAYS goes yellowy!

Get an Alfa for sound...and then you still admit to being boring and buying a 1.4 Polow - I seriously hope that was an atempt at sarcasm.

It also amazes me how people claim to get such a great drive and passion bla bla bla from a flippen Polow...omw! Talk about backwards mentality!

I didn't buy a polo. It's a loaner. Get your facts straight before you denounce people's actions.

Can you emailbit for me please, considering buying 1.sole.loser@gmail. Com
