Help!

Where can I purchase a Polo TSI 1.2 steering Rack. Went to VW and they gave me a quote of R18K. Is the a place that sells after market parts or secondhand parts in JHB.

Your help will be highly appreciated

What is wrong with it? Go to some suspension place and ask if the steering rack cannot be reconditioned.

definately try goldwagen. Also you can have it reconditioned, I did years ago and drove the car for another 5 yrs after.

Thanks for this ..I stay in Booysens JHB.
Cool, there should be similar places around you, don't show them anything regarding the diagnostic done by VW, just tell them what the steering does and let them give you an unbiased opinion, otherwise they are going to work on beating the VW quote, even when it could be a scam, because it's really not too far fetched with dealers.

What happens with the steering rack? I own my cars until they are very old and not once did I have to replace a steering rack, in the absence of an accident or a massive pothole what could damage it it?

There's like a crackling noise when I make turns. And the steering has to always be adjusted otherwise the car keeps going right. When I hit 60 on the speed the car shakes and becomes worse.

Thanks man ...That's what I was thinking as well. I am not showing them that qoute.

It sounds like the mechanical part is the one that faulty and it's jumping the teeth on the rack, that's why the steering needs constant alignment. Question is how long is it going to last after replacement?

To this day, not sure what happened to my old steering rack. One day it became harder to turn the steering wheel than in a MK1 golf. Had to get it replaced.
