VW Polo Vivo 2011 Model

Hi every one, I hope someone can give me some feed back, so I know i am not the only one.

I purchased a VW Polo Vivo 1.6l 2011 last year the end of May. I have always wanted to get a VW and was thrilled to eventually have my own one.

Since I got my new Polo Vivo, I have been hearing a terribly annoying high pitched whining noise coming from the fuel pump. I have since then contacted the Knysna Branch (where I bought the vehicle) and complained about this numerous times, They replaced the fuel pump and apparently put something around it to drown out the noise. but thus far the noise still continues. When I brake the noise gets louder and if I sometimes get the car to 3000 rpm an even louder noise occurs, The dealership claims this is a standard noise which occurs in all Polo Vivos. They also claim the initial continuous noise being due to the fuel pump being electronic and the other noise at 3000 rpm being the catalytic converter.

I am getting extremely agitated with this noise and fed up with the answers which I get from the dealership when I query if they have got any answers for me. So far the only solution they can give me is that I should try ignore the noise and avoid going over 3000rpm at all.

After always wanting a VW, I am now completely regretting ever purchasing a VW.

I am really hoping that some one may be able to help me to resolve this situation in someway or another. I find it very difficult to believe that with all the Polo Vivo's on the road, that I am the only one experience this annoyance.

Please let me know if there is anyone else with this problem????

I test drove the same model and it had the exact same noise,there is not much you can do about it,except to turn the radio volume higher
 
hmmmm- my wifes 2011 Vivo doesn't make any of the noises you described. I do sometimes hear a low pitch whining noise from the fuel pump, barely noticeable at all though. Sorry cant help with your issue - just wanted to point out that its clearly not ALL Polo Vivo's on the road that has the issue you described.

Have you tried taking it to another Lindsay Saker Dealership. Perhaps you'd get more joy going that route.

The problem isn't that you bought a VW, it's that you bought a Vivo. Next time do more research before you buy.

As for your issues I'd say try another dealership.
 
My Vivo had a silencer problem from the factory. Baffles were rattling. The service advisor said there's not much that can be done because all the silencers that they tried had the same fault. Kicked up a huge fuss and demanded a new car as the problem began within a week or 2 of purchase (pre-CPA though). Suddenly the factory fault was fixed. I won't buy a car from that dealership again.

You didn't pay for the noise so it must be fixed. I say take it to another dealer and get them to check it up. Also, ask this dealer to give it to you in writing that it cannot be sorted out. Then take it up with the ombudsman. Dealers like this irritate me.

My Vivo doesn't have these sounds. I have a 2010 1.6 Trendline. If it were a factory fault, my car would have it too.

If you are getting no joy at dealerships with your car, please then call the Head Office of VW in South Africa and lodge your complaints there. They should have a customer service number. I have in the past contacted head offices and it is the best way to get more attention on your problems once you have exhausted your options at the dealer.

Head office care much more about customer satisfaction, as dealers are franchised and about rands and cents. Head office can also provide specialist technicians to dealerships to assist them with their lack of product knowledge.

It is bollocks that "all" Vivos have that noise!

I have done many thousands of kilometers in them and not once did I have a noise like the one you describe.

Contact Head Office and start throwing toys out the cot. The Dealer is being a pillock!

Sadly you are not the first person to complain about noise issues with a Polo. I recall many such letter from new VW owners writing to CAR magazine about how VWSA told them its normal to have such noise problems.
 
A polo vivo is a citi golf and a polo body. You are better off buying a second hand 2005 - 2009 Polo. Those were meant to be polos where as the polo vivo is meant to replace the citi golf. That means that theres R50000+ worth of noise dampening and quality parts missing from the Vivo if you look at the price. I own a 2005 polo and I'v driven a Vivo. Lets just say my 2005 polo actually feels and drives like a polo where as the Vivo feels like a citi with power steering. The difference is very noticeable.

I agree with this to a large extent. I wouldn't have minded paying VW extra to put the old Polo stuff back onto my Vivo but I doubt it was possible. The only reason I went for the Vivo and not an old-shape Polo is because I wanted brand-new.

That said, I don't regret my purchase. I really enjoy driving my car.

Let us know what comes of this.

VW SA cannot prescribe any Dealership. The Dealership principal has the final say and his decision is final.

So you have to suck the principal's pencil in order to get anything done. I hope I don't regret buying a Polo Vivo 2011 model today.

I have the 2014 base and own a 2006 citi golf Chico by far a millions times better and refined in comparison, noises are there as all cars make noise depending on your budget you get what you pay for but can vouch for Vw brand not all cars will be the same and especially with perfectionists anything can bother you, all in all happy with this car.

Slightly regretting whats written above but will leave it in, just be weary there is a noise issue what the others describe i perceive to be a constant hissing noise, you become accustomed to it though and have noticed its on on new polos driving past, my power steering seems to want to drive the car instead of help me drive it, on two instances steering was in a left lock position seems to progress with speed, booked in for that and rattle on left front side, they replaced aircon compressor and said it was sorted and test drove with no noise.

Went in today with same noise even worse than ever!! Foreman agreed. Come on VW, I'm losing hope in this brand, I wanted to only ever own VW vehicles but not so sure now, really stressed out with all the running around, boot central locking failed earlier within my 3 months of ownership thus far.
 
They are starting to price themselves out of the market (For the quality and feature set you get). I don't understand why people still buy their cars..
