VW service/inspection

I'm taking my citi golf to service (30000KM) on Wednesday at MCCARTHY VW SILVER OAKS.
They quoted me for a minimum fee of R1900!
Is this price normal or VW ripping me off?
 
Ye sounds good. What did they change at the 15000km service? Chances are just the oil and plugs right? So ye its about right...
 
Yes, they changed the plugs and air filter at 15000KM, and i paid about R850.
 
Then its fine, now you paying for the major service, brakes, shocks, oil filters, fuel filters and whatevers broken and with the dealers 80% of the charge is labour... No worries I think you fine.
 
That's nothing, my motor plan had to shell out R4800 for a 30KM major service and fixing other things.. something with the drums on the back wheels. I'm not complaining, I'll continue to give them R130pm. Considering I have paid just over R2080 in the last 16months. 1st service was about R500.Who's smiling all the way to the bank now
 
Dude, no way!!

I took my Velo to VW for it's first service and they charged me R950 for doing nothing at all really.

My two subsequent services have been at my local workshop and cost R350 and R500 for the service and then some more for extra parts and break pads and the like.

Don't let VW rip you off just cos they are VW!
 
you're being ripped off!!!!! First of all, you don't NEED TO service you car at the dealer directly, you can service it at any major service station.

Secondly, chance are they're ridding you. The spares (even @ VW) doesn't cost that much. I normally pay aprox. R350 for all the stuff I need for my Polo Playa.

I actually stopped taking my Polo to VW after having some serious fuel consumption problems, only to discover the fuel filter (which I paid for on 7 services) was never replaced by VW. Sadly, by that time the car was out of the service gaurantee so they just pulled their sholders up and blame shifted everyone in the company for not doing their jobs properly.
 
R1900 seems a bit high to me, phone another dealer (VW Hatfield) and see if they quote the same.
 
i serviced my brothers citi golf last year (30K service) at VW Hatfield , Came to around R1100.
Dont think the price could have increased by that much.
 
If you aren't on motor plan, then never take your car to a dealer to be serviced, they'll always rip you off.

very true, and the beauty part is they will probably give your car back with new/more problems.
 
Dude R1900 is madness. That sounds more like a Cam belt service on a Camry. (yes mine hit the dreaded 120 000km mark it hurt.) My golf costs me R450 odd and R600-R700 every alternate service, thats because they change the metal fuel filter every 30k. The most I ever paid for regular maintenance was R1100. The bill included:

Metal fuel filter
Brake Pads
Clutch and brake pedal rubber covers
Spark Plugs
Oil
Air Cleaner
Labour
Consumables
Windscreen washer agent

And that was at Lindsay Saker East Rand Mall in 2004

Unless you driving a Citi 2.0l turbo they riping you off.

It will affect your warrenty (if still in warrenty) and trade in price.
I either service my vehicles myself. ( have to oldish old tech cars with no fuel injection or electronics.) Or take it to the dealers.

I know at VW they have clever little computers they plug into your car to do assesments and when plugged in they will auto update the firmware on your OBC if there is one available ( they run hectic replication servers, the ones at the Dispatch PE factory get pushed updates daily and these replicate to the dealers.)

For major repairs I use other places, motor macs at dealers are replacement technicians. The generaly tune to spec and if something does not work they start replacing parts at expensive dealer prices. They give you a hint to what the problem is and you take it to someone who specialises in that area eg. gearboxes, carbs, ignition, radiator.

Does VW stipulate that services have to be done at VW or else the warranty is cancelled ?
 
From knowing owners and being an owner of alot of VWs, backyard jobbies work and serve the purpose but at the end you always gonna go back for an official service...

Its a brand new car, pay for your service, its the first one.... after 30 000km you can do the next one yourself, I think you still have your 3 year warranty right? Keep it clean.

sorry OP, looks like you just need to phone different VW dealers and see who gives you the best quote, good luck.
