VW service/inspection

@cipha, i'm only getting the car back this afternoon.
they could not do it on Wednesday as originally booked due to some generator installation at dealer.
I only saw some of the response now and now i regret, i could have called different dealers for a lesser quote. I thought, all VW dealers will charge the same price.

Anyway, i learned my lesson.

The service book should detail the number of hours required for each service, e.g. 3.5 hours. Get the labour rate from the dealer, add the cost of the parts required, and then you know how much it *should* cost. Anything more than that, the dealer should have to justify.

TDI EGR & IM cleaning
Sorry for somewhat of a repost here, but I would like to wrap my small head around this to fully understand.

After picking up Golf 4 tdi from a service, the turbo was not spooling therefore no boost. Was absolutely fine when I dropped it off the day before??

Took it back the next morning and had a chat.

Now the service manger did not start the car, did not drive the car.

Just removed the intake on the EGR (exhaust gas reticulator??) valve and pulled some gunk out. Without flinching they are keeping the car for the next 5 days to do the following. Seems fishy they knew the problem before I brought it back???

If I was the service manger, I would not believe some dumb ass customer, I would test it for myself, no? (done this before in IT myself, see the prob and then address)

So now I am told they will need to remover turbo/intake manifold/ERG valve and clean them up. After some quick google reading this makes sense except...

Surely this would have deteriorated the power deliver over time, not over night? It seems really strange that the power and turbo spool up just stopped in an on/off fashion because of this???

Still somewhat confused at their diagnosis to be honest, but not complaining having it all cleaned out.

My reading on tdi club and vwclub indicates that this would have been a gradual loss of spool/boost.

Have I just not understood this at all?? Would not be the first time.

any feedback would be appreciated to get some understanding on this.

many thanks

Ko

PS, looking to get a second TDI soon so knowledge is power I hope??
