So finally its my turn to get a car and i am looking at the 1.4 Polo Vivo.
How far should i push the dealers with regards to price?
So far i have a black 1.4l Trendline with 14" alloys, Bluetooh radio and remote central locking for R131 000.

Should i ask them to throw in the alloys for free or is that pushing it?

There is fracking little profit for the dealer in the sale of a Vivo. You won't get much.

Don't make me feel bad now :(

When i get 5 different quotes for the exact same car and their prices range from R133 000 to R142 000 don't tell me they are not taking me for a ride first :p

Look for a demo model instead man. Save yourself the initial knock you take when driving it off the floor.

And as soon as you drive it off the showroom floor, it will be worth only R100k. Why buy a new car, with that money you can get a great 2nd hand.

After the first 2 second hand cars i had i don't want to go through that nonsense again. Not worth the effort.

'tis not what I'm saying. What I am saying is this: take the list price for the car as you'd want it, charges for extras added... Don't expect to get it for appreciably less than that. Of course the odd dealer will try to swindle R5k out of you for licensing and whatnot, but that's an aside to the price of the car.

R125k buys you this:

You can drive over Vivos. :p

How much cheaper do demo models go for?

My guess would be the new price minus the initial knock, which I would think ranges between 10-20%, depending on the model, mileage, etc.

Perhaps somebody more informed (either Fazda or enigma243) would be able to give you more accurate info.

Not a bad estimate, probably closer to 10% than 20. Demos can be difficult to come by though, as any given dealer would likely only have 1 or 2 of any variant on the books at any one time. With VW it's worse than most - you're dealing with a range of a hundred-odd model variants, with even big dealerships only having 30 to 40 employees driving company cars. So, 1 or 2 demos of the model you're after per dealership with people clamouring to snatch them up when they're released to market...

What might be a viable option with the Vivo is to look for an ex-rental. Franchise dealers often buy them in to bolster stock, and there should be an ample supply of Vivos with 10,000 to 15,000km on the clock. People tend to shy away from them, but I've sold a fair number of AVIS go-carts without any hassle.
