i just bought a VW citi sport 2008 model , and suprise, i can't get it out of safe..its showing 1000, called VW braamfontein and said it will cost me around R2500.
i feel stupid that i didn't demand an owner's manual and to hear the stereo before buying car as music is extremeley important,
anyway, Im thinking of going to Auto Style and a stereo...Is there any other way I could get the security code?

Thanks

Have you asked the previous owner for the code?

R2,500 for what? A new radio?

For a dealer to get the code would be about 10 minutes' "work" - pull the radio from the dash to get its serial number, hook the car up to the diagnostic computer, enter car's chassis number & radio's serial number into said computer and voila, you get your radio code. R2.5k is taking the piss... R250 maybe, if they feel like shafting you.

No I haven't..Bought it from the Dealer and they said the people they got it from, sourced it from Mpumalanga..I think its going to be hassle to try and get the original owner. But will give it a try.

That was my Question, and the answer was "NO, around R2500 just for the code..I dont want to put after market stereo as yet, but if its true for/in all VW dealers, then i will have to.

What dealer? Surely it is their responsibility to supply you with a fully operational car. I'd start with them.

The code is like 4digits. AFAIK, if you have the serial number of the radio, VW can give you the code. Don't know about the R2500 though. I found my code in the owners manual.

If the radio is the original one that came with the car, I would give VWSA a call with the cars VIN number, they should be able to help.

You need both the radio's serial and the VIN, as well as for the car to be hooked up to the diagnostic system at a dealer. That system is linked to VW's own network & then allows you to retrieve the radio code.

I would almost put money on VWSA merely redirecting you to a dealer.

Ok, I didn't know it had been sold through a dealer with a non-functioning radio. I'd definitely give them hell!

Phone VW, give them the radio code and your VIN number, they will give you the code over the phone.

I called VW braamfontein again, a lady answered and she said it was gonna cost R189 and I will have bring in the car as they need to take out the radio and check for the radio serial number, the codes they get them from Germany..I told her what I was told before and she said that was madness...

Rouxenator gonna love this!

What make is the radio? I've managed to get codes online (for Mercedes) :)

R189 is still a rip for 10 minutes' work, but a damn sight better than R2.5k

get the serial no yourself and save a few bucks...

...and damage the dashboard in the process if you don't have the proprietary keys to release the radio with. In turn costing you a few more bucks again.
