I have a vw tiguan, bought it new in 2011 and currently the car has 53 000km. Recently I have been having a problem when pulling away in the morning or driving again after say 6 hours of non driving.

When I pull away(when its cold) in the mornings it feels and sounds like the engine wants to fall out. The car does not want to take to the clutch so I have to sort of rolling pull away or use the hold assist.

This will happen until engine temp reaches approx 80 degrees. Its difficult to explain the sounds that the car makes but it scares me. Could this be a cluth problem? I will take the car to VW tomorrow but by the time I get there the engin temp will be normal and the car will not show these problems and then they will just say that there's nothing wrong with the car.

Any ideas or have anyone experienced the same problems?

My mother had a Tiguan about 5-6 years ago, we sold it after 2 years as the turbo blew twice :( Was quite a nice car! Miss it :)

So my thought maybe check your turbos, they don't seem reliable!

Or leave the car there tonight and get a lift in tomorrow morning to show them what it does.

I've tried reading your explanation a few times, but can't make head or tail of what you're trying to say.

When the vehicle drives for the first time after standing overnight, it shudders to **** when pulling away from a complete standstil until engin temp reaches normal operating temps.

Diesel. I am going to leave it with them, just thought someone might know what the actual problem is.

I reckon it could be an engine or gearbox mounting.

No its not like a fuelling problem where the car stutters, this one shudders, badly.

Huh? How could this be the issue if its only happening when its cold? OP petrol or diesel? Could be glow plugs/spark plugs.

Glow plugs completely irrelevant in our climate.
Engines have different running characteristics when they're cold. Could theoretically affect engine mounts... I spose it's fairly unlikely though.

Well i need to know if its petrol or diesel, i got some water in my spark plugs once and this caused issues. It wouldnt fire properly and would backfire when it was cold. Once it warmed up it would improve but the moisture was just condensating at the top so it would fall back down when the car was resting and cooled off. Change of spark plugs, syringing the water and spraying some q20 all fixed the issue.

At the end of the day , we are all just guessing. OP hasn't exactly explained the problem in good details.

I can't explain it any better and I have already mentioned that its a diesel. I don't think it has anything to do with the glow plugs. Something in the engine bay is physicaly shaking, only when its cold. If I don't use the hold assist the car stalls, after the shaking/knocking.

Oh rite sorry , i read your OP and then replied :o only saw the other post now. Nah well the glow plugs will be an issue if you are in a very cold part of South Africa and its been particularly cold recently in your area. From your description it sounds like something is loose  and no warning lights either obviously? The only other things i can think of is belts or pump. But even those dont make complete sense with regards to the shaking. Also see you mentioned clutch which is a possibility.

No warning lights, also not really cold, live in the northern suburbs of CPT.
