VW UP - Rear fog light replacement

Yesterday I replaced one of the rear light on the up, it's the same bulb that's also the rear fog. But this morning I noticed that the rear fog light is now permanently on, blinding cars behind me. I'm hoping somebody here has had the same problem before that might know what's wrong.

The bulb I replaced is the same type of bulb.

Where did you buy it?

Goldwagen should be able to assist with right bulb.

Not sure on the config of your fog lights but some bulbs have a specific orientation, i.e.: they must be inserted the right way up. Setting them upside down can have results similar ton what you describe.

Edit, just took the bulb out and it didn't want to come out. When I finally got it out I noticed that the generic bulb I bought at the hardware shop's points are straight, and the old bulb is slightly off set, will go buy a new one at VW this morning. The closest GW is in Somerset West / Strand, won't have time today to drive out that way. Thank for the help.

Or leave it, it's not like you really need it or it's crucial or anything. Any other bulb sure, but the rear fog light? Unless you live in a country where visibility is really bad it's probably not something needed. Or unless the Up does what my Cruze does and moan there is a faulty bulb.

I took the car down to VW and they replaced it. The bottom part of the rear light cluster is dead when the fog light blows, so it looks odd. But it also functions as the rear fog. If you can understand my clumsy explanation.

Or just care about your car enough to have it working properly. You don't have to use the light just cause it's there, but it has to work properly.

One bulb gone doesn't mean it's not working properly . Sorry I just hate those things and they always seem to be on

I hate rear fogs as well, but I only use them when their is actual fog, which we have regularly in the winter around here. And as Pinball Wizzard said, I don't like broken things. It starts with one thing, then becomes two, and before you know it it looks like most of the cars on the road in this country.

I am guilty of using rear fogs when idiots tailgate me at night as well. Like I'm going to go faster than the speed limit just because you are an anus. Morons. Have some bright red retinas.

Single lane built up area 60kmh speed limit. Move over where? I'm doing sixty. What law am I breaking? You're lucky if all I do is put the rear fog lights on and don't simply take my foot off the gas.

I came back to this thread to rep you, but I can't twice, would if I could. I went to VW and they helped me to put the correct bulb in. Checked a while later and it was till permanently on. So last night I decided to take it out while waiting till I have time to book the car in. Turned the bulb around and what do you know, it's working properly. I should have taken your advice from the beginning. Thanks.
