Wüsthof Knives

Their paring knife:

The most versatile of all parers: for mincing shallots, onions and herbs as well as cleaning and cutting vegetables.

Bullschit IMO! I hardly ever use a paring knife except for taking off fat from some meats to be honest - works quite well. Mincing herbs, shallots, onions etc - much better to use a bigger blade if you chop properly...

Nice knives though...

Well it came in a set with the big knife and the smaller one. The paring one is quite useful though.

Paring knives are usually the most useless and unused.

For what? I cut packets open with it and trim fat sometimes, but that's about it. The way I chop requires a larger knife...

I use it for random things like cutting an avo in half, and my mom doesn't like the big knife, so she likes to use it.

paring knives are the most useless knife in the kitchen... they're the ones that always stay the sharpest in my house.. think i have 3 of them... and they NEVER get used..

My chef's knife on the other hand, well that gets used for pretty muche verything.

I have:

a Global G-2 (http://www.yuppiechef.co.za/chefs-knives.htm?id=590&name=Global-Cooks-Knife-20cm-G-2)

a Nenox 9.25" Chef's Knife and a Nenox 6" utility as well.
The above 3 are my most reliable, requiring minimal sharpening and trully the nicest feel.

a 8.5inch MAC (http://www.sonomacutlery.com/store/product.php?productid=16164) which I rate very very highly as well.

I have a Wüsthof that's gathering dust.

Edit: Nenox's Website: (Google Translated) http://translate.google.com/transla...v=/search?q=nenohi&hl=en&client=safari&rls=en
I also have a Nenox Cleaver.

Nice - I much prefer the one piece carbon steel knives. To be honest, I have three chef's knives and a chinese chef's knife which I use for nearly everything. Until it comes to trimming meat or delicately chopping veg, I'll use the big boys...

The one knife I still want to get my hands on is one of those Ceramic Chef Knives...

Thing they're made by Philips of all people.

Or after a short bit of digging... Kyocera... and a few others now as well.

Then you probably don't know how to use it - it can be and is one of the most useful knives in a kitchen.

I will admit I probably don't know how to use it :)...

For me its the most useless should I say

Dont worry - I play darts with mine . . . . well used to - it's frowned upon now that I have kids. ;)

I havent got a clue who makes any of the knives I use in the kitchen. Some of them are probably older than I am - esp the Chinese cleaver I inherited from somewhere. :o

I have a set of Kershaw knives. Father keeps buying me one from time to time. Those are by far the best knives I have ever had and sharp as hell

I dont really use paring knife, I prefer to use a chef knife. You knives looks nice. If you like to work with smaller knives when cooking then you will like it.

Tell me what would be a good gift knife for BF.( dreaded birthday coming up and he drools over knifes) HE said something about a spider?

All i know is a Swiss army knife and a stanley knife :)
