More bang for the buck for what exactly? For gaming yes I agree. But for mission critical work like post production, visual effects etc I would never use a machine that uses Windows as it OS. NEVER!!!

PS: I've been doing "mission critical"(whatever the F that means) post production on a Windows PC for 7 years now...
 
Guys, with all due respect to your experience and pros and cons of both systems, the question that was asked has not been answered yet,
Can I propose that either 'faction' (if I may call it that) provide advise to @ice330 what would be his options either way with his budget.

Buy a mac that's stable and LASTS for 14k and then upgrade slowly.

It was answered in great depth in post 20 by Zoidberg, who does actually know what he's talking about, although I do disagree with his build a bit:

No need for "k" CPU's, you don't overclock a workstation, rather spend the extra on an i7 out the box
Skylake rather than Kabylake, can get the mobo's MUCH cheaper and the performance increase doesn't warrant the extra price
The VS550 is a terrible PSU, get the CX550M
Don't need 2 SSD's

For OP:
U can get a 2.4-2.6Ghz Mac Pro 4.1or 5.1 with at least 8 gig RAM and a 5770 GPU with a 1 TB OS drive for roughly 8-12k. U may get lucky with more RAM etc if u can find one

You could just install mac OS on to a new pc and not waste your money but hey who am I to judge.

Yes I am sure it will. I've owned at least 8 Mac Pros from 1.1s all the way to a 12 core 5.1 and not one has ever died on me. Sold them as I went along my upgrade path and have not received a single call back from any buyer who said any sold have died.

I had a Macbook Air 2011 and a Macbook Pro Retina 2014 die on me.

Laptops are more susceptible to failure due to various factors one of which is the fact that they get transported around. Mac Pro and Pc desktops are far more robust. But statistics show that mac hardware failure rates are far lower than pcs

I am not selling a mac. I am just giving him advice from my experience. If he wants a mac he needs to look for one on the classifieds.

Advice given for a R14k new PC, compared to (no links supplied yet) used Mac Pro, most probably 5 years old. Then, new Mac pro ridiculously expensive and links supplied by others to prices of R45k to R60k (Guess excl monitor) of new Mac Pros. You could build 2 decent PCs or one MFBA machine for R45k that will whip any Mac Pro.

Or you could just build one decent PC and have enough cash left over from R45k to upgrade/repair it for the next 5 years. What is missing from my logic apart from "but its not a Mac"?

Using used/pre-loved parts, I can put together a PC for R14k that will still whip the Mac's ass. There is no logic to your reasoning. Bet you also drive a Toyota?
