WA does it again ..........

wamatt ... I hope you guys are making a profit! All the extra staff, the late nights, the free 1gig credits for users and the fact that you only make a small margin on the SAIX charges has me worried! Its nice to offer great service and good prices, but it does not help anyone if you end up making a loss.

i'm glad i stayed with WebAfrica instead of moving over to SAOL.com. i don't like that crowd.

peace ;)

I'd grumble about the fact that I got kicked in the middle of a particularly good round of Battlefield2, but the extra sleep was appreciated ;)

Oh, btw, Idon't think I received an invoice for november yet, is that normal?

Its a pity that ISP's have to suffer the brunt of Telkom's ****ups.

I am very glad I switched to WA yesterday, a 20 odd minute disconnect at midnight is no big deal in my books and the fact that they had guys working on the problem at that time shows they do care about their clients.

this is the reason that I stayed with WA :) The guys are putting in the extra effort and that does pay off in the end, I just hope they survive until all this rubbish with Telkom comes to an end.

@wa

Just curious to know if WA still checks their own forums.... Last I can track down a WA post was about 10 days ago, maybe you should participate in your forums as activly as you participate in the myADSL forums. use it don't use it! There seems to be quite a few questions directed at services you offer but no one to answer them.

..., we changed over to midnight session timeouts (instead of random throughout the day). We made this change before Nov 1. However it now appears conclusively that the system post 1 Nov (Telkom AAA -> WA AAA) cannot handle the load of everyone trying to connect. I believe we are the only ISP that does this.

We have reverted back to non-uniform session timeouts to prevent it happening in the future.

If you disconnect now and reconnect again then it won't happen to you, just so that the timeout code we had running up until about 5 minutes ago doesn't get applied to your account (and then you time out as you normally would every 24 hours).

Obviously there are some changes that are going to have to be made though, but this should prevent it happening again.
Hi Guys
Does this mean it would be beter to force a disconnection/reconnection at a time other than midnight to avoid the problem in reconnecting just after midnight

Mike, Richard had a chat to Telkom about it again today and we've got a workaround in place even you disconnect at midnight its not going to be a problem.

For those technically inclined, if Telkom receives even a single dropped or delayed accounting packet (out of say 1000's) it declares the entire ISP Radius server "dead" for 15 minutes. Of course its just an insane way of doing things but thats the way it is and they aren't able/willing to change it.

If you do a manual disconnect though now you will not be disconnected at midnight, so if you paranoid (which is understandable) you welcome to do that! :)

Thanks for the reply Matt and also for the complimentary 1 GIG.

Hopefully I will not be working over midnight tonight so I will not force a disconnection.

Once again thanks to everyone at WA for client service since I opened my account in September that has consistently exceeded my expectations

Could you find out from them what they have been smoking, so that killadoob can avoid it??

Much improved. Automatically disconnected at 23:59:54 and took 11 minutes to reconnect.

Will force a disconnection / reconnection now to get out of the midnight cycle.

Thanks for the feedback Mike, we were keeping a close eye on it.

Tomorrow we will hopefully have it so there is no downtime whatsoever during reconnection.

Much appreciated. Reconnection was immediate on the forced disconnetion.

Do you guys never sleep?

Thanks once again.

So, I would like to see all self-authenticating ADSL ISPs putting in place a "preferred-disconnect time" setting that their customers can use to specify the preferred disconnect time(s) - at least that way you know when not to be in the middle of a SkypeOut call...

great suggestion!

i got disconnected in the middle of something last night. 3 nights in a row :( hope this is soughted permanently asap.

Now I hate Telkom even more!!!!
I was busy chatting to a very important business client overseas last night, and then wham 11:59:23 I get DC'd. I LOST THE BUSINESS!!!!!!!!!! I am insanely!!!!! pissed off!!!!!!

I dont hold WA responsible. But Telkom.... I truly hope all you idiots out there, that you catch a disease, pass it onto your kids, and die!!!!!! I have lost all forms of remorse, moral and anything good for Telkom employees. Frankly I couldnt give a damn if they get blown to bits and every single Telkom upper management dies!!!!! Go to hell you bunch of pricks!!!

Thanks WA for the service btw. Much appreciated.
