I hope I can clear up these issues surrounding the Recharge discontinuation that have occurred recently. This is the R45 for 3GB's special we ran for quite a while. Please see my points below:

Surely it is flawed to compare a special to a standard, month to month offering?
The Recharge feature was never meant to be a month-month product. We did state this when we launched the special a few months ago.

Utter nonsense. Your COO stated very clearly that the recharge top-up was indefinite. And it lured many, many users to WA. Never was it expressed that this was a special, limited offer that would soon expire.

And please, no more apples!

If we're going to compare apples with apples, you can compare the old vs. new Topup pricing. Old being R69/GB and the new being R49/GB - both which roll over. This is hardly a price increase?

Don't you think it's ridiculous to charge such a high top-up rate to someone with a large ADSL account?
For me, if I use 25GB for the month, it's R600. If I use 27GB, it shoots up to nearly R700. The Titan special is no long a 'special' if I need just a few GB extra. I now have to watch the family's usage like a hawk.
It's understandable for the per GB price to go up when you use your allotted amount, but this is too much.

Maybe this is the only way you can make a profit, because you're selling Titan and large Complete accounts below cost?

I miss what they had in New Zealand. If you had a large account (10GB or more), you wouldn't get cut off when you hit your cap. You would just get throttled down to 128k so you could at least do the basics.

Edit: Here's an idea. Adjust the price of top-ups according to the ADSL package. So a larger package would have cheaper top-ups.
Say R40 per GB top-ups for a 5Gb account, R30 per GB for a 10GB account and so on. Gives people more reason to go big.

The image posted in one of the initial posts of this thread has made us realise that the system is recommending an incorrect package going from a Titan. This was an oversight from our side and can assure you we are busy sorting out a fix on this.
We do acknowledge this and appreciate the feedback given here

I see a lot of threads have been linking back here and I'd like to provide some supporting info.

The intention at the time of launching the Recharge add-on was to provide it, ongoing, for an unspecified period of time - as we do with all offerings. It is merely an add-on that had to be reviewed as it just is not feasible; and like all product life-cycles has come to an end.

The customers who are most affected by this change are those that have been using recharge as a primary product - which is something it was never intended for, as in-Bundle-rates need to be priced lower than Out-of-bundle rates (Top-Ups). (Otherwise nobody would want to use our packaged options).

Honesty and transparency are absolutely important to us. Its one of the core, founding principles of Web Africa - thus why we have open forums where we invite our community to join us in working together to reach our shared goals: Great products, competitively priced, that are still profitable - to ensure we can continue to deliver our usual level of excellent service to our customers.

Discontinuing Recharge was a difficult decision for us, but it had to be done.

We know that many of our customers will appreciate that we continue to act according to good business principles.

Overall, if one combines In-bundle rates with Download Plus it comes out at around R13 per GB - really great value.

More bandwidth allocation

Have a look at Download Plus guys. We launching a 50% discount for the first three months, so your GB's clock down to R4/GB - which is an insane rate for data!

I am not going to even touch on the issue of your short lived, and misleading recharges!!

As to this download plus - for most of us it is a waste of time due to the limiting hours firstly. Yes I know use downloading programs etc. I do not want to - thank you! Secondly - no options.

I do not want to pay for another 30 gigs at R 240 (normal rate once discount runs out). I want maybe 5 or 10 gigs - give me some choices as has been suggested (but simply ignored by WA) and then maybe it might start to be worthwhile.

Sadly I am guessing that based on how often the goalposts move with WA it too will be removed or changed!!

A small pointer though, what about thinking about it the other way around? If you queue downloads for after hours and do most of your general internet activities during office hours - surely you will have more bandwidth left at month end?

As an example, instead of download a Linux ISO for example. Rather grab it at midnight instead of 11am in the morning.
On the "choose your amount point" there is something in the pipeline. Keep an eye on our website So yes, we do listen to our communities and do take your suggestions in hand.

The special for Download Plus starts from the 1st December, as mention on our forum. On top of this, we are also introducing Download Plus Allocation from the December 1st as well, which is available with selected sized off peak GB's. Please refer here for further information.

You were not suppose to be charged R999 for the MyBB Special that you current have. I have dropped you a PM for information so that I can inform our team to investigate why this happened.

Unless you're in a contract with them, I don't believe there's anything binding you to WA. If you don't like it, you can always move to Axxess, Mweb or Openweb.
