Hi gents, I am trying to help a friend who is having an issue with his backup system, he has a Pylontech battery connected to a 5kW Axpert King. For some reason he switched off power to the inverter, battery must have somehow ran flat and the BMS switched it off.

Problem now is that the inverter cannot turn on without the battery and the battery is in sleep mode or something, the green power LED on the battery is on but the SOC LEDs are all off.

Is there a way to wake up the battery?

Hold the start button for half a second.

Will tell him to try that, I thought it was a reset button so I did press it a couple of times although I think the inverter had no incoming AC at the time because it is currently bypassed.

That won't have any effect on the battery. Those batteries are designed to cut off at 6% so there's no way to make it completely flat, it will always have some charge in.

So if it is just in sleep mode and nothing else is wrong, pressing that button for half a second should wake the battery up?

I think te problem is that without solar he has been using the battery as backup only and not cycling the battery as recommended, causing the battery to go into sleep mode.

Thanks Priapus, I will hopefully get an update during the day.

If im not mistaken this can actually void the warranty on the Pylontech something to look into

Yup these batteries are designed to be cycled daily. Not cycling it for 3 days will put it into sleep mode. Not 100% sure on the warranty aspect; but it is a bit of a waste of a very good battery to keep it in backup only mode.

I've been using a Pylontech batteries for three years now only for load shedding. Sometimes if we are lucky weeks will go by without them being cycled. So far all the health reports are showing perfect battery health.

Yeah, your health reports will show that. But this is not the recommended use case for these batteries. Mine are cycled daily.

As long as it has sufficient charge it should pull out of sleep mode when needed.

The power switch on my inverter (that's not an Axpert tho) is a 3 position rocker switch, perhaps make sure that's not the case for that one as you could be putting the rocker in the wrong position.

Power saver, off and on? I don't think the Axpert has that, there is a push button switch on the front panel, but I will ask him check underneath if there is no other power switch.

It doesn't. It's just a rocker switch. on or Off. There is also a reset switch that power cycles the inverter.

Its also normal for the battery to sit like that with no SOC lit sometimes.
Perhaps an inverter issue?

Here's mine now for reference (backup only)

That's exactly what is happening with my friends, power LED on but no SOC LEDs, does yours wake up on its own?

I just got a report back, he has pressed the red button and the thing still does not budge, next step is to power it completely off and power it on again in the evening, if that doesn't work I don't know anymore.

Yes, that's a now pic...should mains power go off they'll supply what their meant to.

Looks like I will have to find a way to get a 48V battery to test the inverter, the gate motor batteries in series should be good enough just to see if it power on, right?

Is the inverter powered on? Surely it needs to charge the batteries...?
