8km?? License Free?? No repeater, i perhaps think you need to research a but more as you are asking alot. If i sound harsh, im sorry

I'm part of our street committee/ Neighbourhood watch. Most of the time we are on foot, so we just need communication, within a small area between members. Therefore we don't need a repeater per se, just something we can use to communicate between each on patrol. Ideally yes free licence, as we are all volunteers majority who are unemployed. But point taken so no hard feelings

We have had our fair share of intruders on our frequency.
I hate them like I hate taxis

Oh...that kind of walkie talkies

/heads back to fridge

You will be lucky if you get 2km from any of the licence free ones in a suburb.

U won't get 8km from public band radios. Have u ever thought of PTT on your cellphones.

yes, but not an option unfortunately. ill check around, and see what we can come up. If we have to go the licencing route with a repeater then we will just have to sort that out.

Bought a pair of these to keep in touch for me and my GF while driving/moving her stuff from Durban to Joburg over the Holidays.
They easily get about 2KM-3KM range and should get more if you have line of sight or few buildings inbetween... The build quality is great too even though it looks dodgy from the pics.
This price is actually great since the cheapest we could find was at a chinese shop for R650
