Didn't microsoft say windows 8 will be upgraded to 9 for free? remember hearing it somewhere...
sounds absurd now, where would they make the money.

It's not that much TBH, I'm sure people spend far more on other hobbies, hell looking at some of the people on YouTube I follow have $4100 PC's... That's insane!

Any good case recommendations?

I want something easy to work in, doesn't need noise dampening foam or fancy stuff, just a side panel window and easy cable management... maybe a LED fan or two.

Check the carbonite.Co.Za forums for parts and put a monster machine together. Just last week someone was selling a few R9290 gpu cards for 3.5k, imo it's the best card around in terms of spec and price. Your gtx550 is outdated and this is where you'll get the biggest improvement for gaming. You can keep your motherboard (didn't mention what you have) and get something like a 2500k or 2600k cpu for about 1.5-2k and get top cooling for it so you can run at 4ghz plus. Get a 128gb ssd for under 1k, can't recommend an ssd highly enough. Your 8gb 1333mhz ram is the least of your problems, you won't gain much with faster ram. As for a case and peripherals that's more to personal taste.

P.s. you'll want to check sellers itrader ratings and preferably get parts with remaining warranties on them.
