Want fast wireless connect while visiting SA

@If you need to make regular phone calls to the US it might be worth testing out one of the Betamax callback Voip services like www.voipraider.com or www.12voip.com. You should be able to make ~5 hours worth of free calls to landlines in the US per week via a normal SA Telkom phone line. This could save quite a bit of expensive bandwidth for other tasks. They let you try out the service for 1 hour free of charge. A 10 Euro payment gets you 90 days of free service.

You say I can use the regular SA phone lines to the US. These seem to be PC to PC or PC to telephone on the remote end. Is there a way to call phone to phone or do you mean I could use the PC connected at 56k to a regular phone line? Thanks.

@Fred: Here are the instructions on how to do phone to phone using Voipraider.

You need an internet connection just to initiate the call - even a 56K dialup connection would probably suffice. Once the call has been placed then you longer require the internet connection so you could receive the phone call over the same analog line if necessary if you terminate the dialup connection before the call arrives (in this case it would be easier to route it in reverse i.e. first wait for the receiving number to ring, disconnect the dialup connection and then wait for your number to ring). You can try out the phone to phone service free of charge just by typing in two numbers on the bottom right of the Voipraider homepage in the Make a Free Trial Call box. If you are planning to route in reverse you need to inform the receiving party that if the phone rings at any time and it sounds dead not to put it down but just to wait for the call to be switched through.

If you don't have access to any Internet connection but need to make international calls then you could investigate this calling card service. It will work out more expensive than Voipraider if you need to make several hours worth of international calls per week.

I disagree, but it's your life. Do what you want….each of us has the right to go about how we feel.

What's your problem, Jonki. No dates coming your way?
