Wanted – many IT techies

just another excuse to get cheaper labour ..... these buggers are not willing to pay the salaries expected of IT workers in this country as the cost of living is quite high.... so they go find cheap labour overseas and say that we have a lack of skill ... I find this ridiculous, but yet typical.
 
A very odd statement by paracon, I don't seem to remember ever seeing advertisements for jobs in the local papers.....me thinks this is just another person scr3wing over the local population.

Seriously, when was the last time you heard of anyone in the IT field getting a job in the newspaper? I would say there has been a definite increase in the number of jobs being posted online in my particular field (SysAdmin/Network Admin sort of thing).
 
The thing is all the jobs advertised are looking for people with experience. I understand this because they might not want a complete idiot. But where are the newly qualified people suppose to get this experience because no company are willing to give them a chance. SA companies should start to do more training and give people without experience a chance. It is just maybe easier to say o well we cant find people with the right skills so lets go offshore. How about training somebody so that they have the skills the company is looking for.
 
Exactly what is in short supply?

The article does not mention any skills that are in demand.

Administrators or programmers?
Windows or Linux?
C# or C++?

The only thing in short supply is IT staff to fill EE/AA/transformation/fcukdup quotas. I guess imports from India fits the bill. Pale males need not apply.
