Hey guys,

I'm using Vista 32-bit and half-bridge mode worked on my old Microcom
AD2651 (even though it was still only in bridge mode). On Tuesday I noticed something very strange...

I could access the router's interface using whilst connected only to my local account, but as soon as I use my international only account, I just crashed and timed out. Then I hard reset my router (cause I wanted to switch the accounts around), and then I couldn't access it at all anymore.

I then took it back to Incredible Deception (yes I bought one there last year cause everyone else was closed and I was desperate) as it was still under warranty. Now I got a brand new Microcom Wifi AD2730 ADSL 2/2+ capable router, but the problem that I have with it now is that it uses the same interface as the Mega 100WR from Telscum.

One good thing, bridge mode works perfect, tested it on a XP machine that I have, but I use Vista on my pc and I can't get half-bridging to work at all !

If there is some1 here on myadsl that can help me perhaps with this current router to see if I can't get it into half bridge before I buy a new one, plz send me a pm, as I want to send screenies of the router's interface to see if there isnt perhaps a setting that I missed somewhere...

What router works 100% in half-bridge mode to use in conjunction with Route Sentry on Vista ? I really want a kickass router that does this and that won't let me down. I really would like some suggestions with regards to brands and how easy to are to set up etc.

I'm really desperate to get a half-bridging capable router for Vista, as disconnecting and reconnecting accounts is really getting tedious...

I look forward to comments/suggestions..

:o

Most/all of the Billion routers support half bridge mode, the 7300G definitely should. Have you tried updating the firmware of your existing router?

Nowhere on the internet can I find a new firmware for it, microcom's website is useless ! :(

The closest firmware that I can get that matches mine is that of the Mega 100WR, which is 66.70.1, whereas mine is 66.80.1. But I don't wana risk flashing it with that, what if that doesnt work, then I'm totally screwed. Does any1 have a Billion router running in half-bridge on Vista, which model number do you have ?

*EDIT* On the box it says that it supports transparent bridging, is this just the normal bridge mode ?

If your firmware is of the 66 kind. Browse around www.routertech.org and see if any solutions can come by. Often you have to delve deeper than the router branding to find out what chipset and the like it runs. Then a whole new world might open itself to you.

Thanx milomak, I'll browse around there and see what I can find. However I still feel that I need to get a new router, and keep this one only for backup purposes. I'm looking at buying the Billion BiPAC 7300G router seeing as it supports half-bridge mode according to Billion SA ( I emailed them).

Now the question is, where can I find one of these routers ?

I just ordered a 7300M from http://www.micts.co.za

Syndyre I take it this router also supports the elusive half-bridge mode that I seek ?

Yeah its basically the same as the 7300G, just with better wireless. I was going to order the 7300G but they didn't have in stock, that was about a week or so ago though, think he said they were getting stock on the 18th so they should have now.

may be a old question and not needed anymore but I just had more or less the same problem with the Microcom Wifi AD2730 ADSL 2/2+ capable router . and like previously mentioned the service and firmware from microcom sucks... i looked at the Telkom router and decided i would take the plundge seeing as the microcom and Telkom Mega 100WR LOOKS the same .. i downloaded the new firmware for the WR100 and did the firmware upgrade on the microcom .... from here ..http://www.telkomphones.co.za/mega100wr_dwnld.htm .. seems like they don't just look the same but are the same and firmware worked fine .. the microcom even reports itself as a WR100 now and multiple PPPOE connections work just fine and dandy ... also has new firewall/security and shaping features that work .. so if you have the AD2730 microcom (bought from incredible corruption).. just use the Telkom firmware.......
