I did have a thread on this, but decided not to resurrect it.

I am looking at buying a 3rd monitor for my rig, I already have 2 Samsung 2333SW's.

I have a 5850 which I have just got and keen on getting eyefinity up and running.

Now you have to have at least one monitor that uses display port to get it working, pretty *** as I cant even find a monitor with display port.

Now has anyone actually got this working using maybe an adapter? I assume Display port to HDMI converter?

Also what would be a good monitor to add to my rig, I was looking at the Samsung B2430H.

Cheers

I'll also be setting up an eyefinity setup as soon as the budget allows. You'll need an active DP to HDMI/DVI converter. I haven't seen any locally yet though. I'll also recommend using 3 of the same monitors. Otherwise you'll have issues with different colours on different monitors and different sizes mean you'll have lines of objects not matching up when displayed over the two different size monitors.

Thanks Penguin,

Only problem is A they don't make the 2333SW anymore, and B it doesn't have HDMI :(

You reckon using a 24' and 2 23' monitors won't work?

Google and search this forum, and make sure its and ACTIVE converter, or it just won't work...

It will work, but imagine a straight line running horizontally across all three monitors. The line wont be straight across on different sizes, the line on bigger monitor will be 1 or 2 cm higher and wont match up to the other two. Maybe you can live with it, it will annoy the crap out of me. On the otherhand, I don't think it will be that noticeable in games. You don't acctually focus on the side monitors, it's only there for your peripheral vision. :)

Thanks for tip, will keep that in mind.

I am wondering maybe I should sell my 2 2333SWs and get 3 new 24's. Hmm, R1500 each? That reasonable?

Anyway, lank keen to get this eyefinity up and running.

I have a similar setup to yours. I had to buy a Active DisplayPort to DVI converter otherwise it wont work. (I imported as I could not find one locally) Cost me R1200k+
To be honest just buy a monitor with native displayport. It will make life a lot easier.

I dont mind the fact that Eyefiniy supports a 3rd monitor through DisplayPort only. But none of the local vendors stock the "Active DisplayPort to DVI adapter".... Which is quite frustrating....

Had I known from the start, I would not bought the HD Radeon card but put 2 x decent nvidia cards instead. I had a 3 monitor setup with my old rig. I upgraded the rig and thought eyefinity would do the trick. Technically it did, but at a cost...

My honest opinion is to buy a 3rd monitor with native displayport built in. If you dont have a 3rd monitor already....

The converter I talked about from Frontosa is an Active VGA to DP converter. It is made by Saphire. Like I said expect to pay around R370

Here is a active converter:

@Elfreako - thanks, seems the one from prophecy is the same. R388 is not to bad then.

well the wife had an absolute meldown at even the thought of me getting a new monitor, so I am thinking I will stick with the 2 2333sws and try find a third.

Just a question though, if I use a DVI to HDMI converter, will I be able to plug the 3rd monitor in? Both DVI ports are obviously in use so would need to use the HDMI port.

This is probably resurrecting an old thread, (not too old), but I'm also busy researching the whole Eyefinity trend.

I see Frontosa are pretty good with the DisplayPort monitor's, but they are also quite expensive, so at the end of the day, I'll probably have three monitors supporting both HDMI and DVI and use convertors/adaptors to do the rest.

This Frontosa ad is confusing though:

It states that Eyefinity allows a "single GPU" to output up to 6 independent displays simultaneously. That might be true, but how will that work if there are no cards with 6 output ports?!

Other than that, what good 21"/22" monitors that have both HDMI and DVI connectors can you guys recommend?

Hey Tiny,

Finally someone else on the same quest as me :D

Thats a good question, I am not really sure how you would set up more than 3, but its definitely possible, must be.

I desperately am looking for one of those active adapters, Prophecy had them on their site but took them off as they haven't even received them.

As for monitors, I would recommend the Samsung B2430H, awesome monitor which has VGA, DVI and HDMI.

I looked at some monitors with native display ports but yeah they are to expensive.

The "eyefinity" edition 5850 and 5870 support 6 monitors.

What I would like to know is why you cant run three monitors with 2 Dvi's and one HDMI cable :(

The HDMI port uses the same electricals as one of the DVI ports(either one) AFAIK, so you need to use the displayport for the third screen...
