Hi Guys

Would any of you be so kind as to be able to tell me the average upload and download speeds. I use 3G to play MMORPG games and it works but I would like better latency, would anyone recommend it for Online gaming...

ADSL etc. is just too expensive and take ages to be installed I know it's allot better for online gaming but I’m looking for different online solution. We all should know why ?.... LMAO.

Pls guys your input would be appreciated.

The speeds and stability all depend on your location to the base station, if you fall in the dark green areas, LOS etc.

Best is you have a test done first before you decide which way to go.
Some users have really bad speeds where others like myself normally have very good speeds.

Check my speed test a few min ago at this thread:

My average is NOT going to be your average, that's just the way it is. I play Trackmania Nations online without too many probs. Ideally you need someone to test at your place, and then make use of the 7 day window to test your online stuff

"Just did an iBurst speed test and DL is 776kbps UL is 232kbps"

I could do with that speed.

@ Landyman

I live in Krugersdorp, Dan Pienaarville
I'm in the Light green area and don't really know what that means, I asume i could pick-up some problems.

That speedtest is really not bad for this time of day. Also their coverage maps are really crap. How did you do the test? did you borrow an iBurst modem somewhere?

That was my speedtest he posted.:D

@ Landyman.

No sorry I quoted that from MrH's speed test he wanted me to check.
Sorry I should have mentioned that.

I haven't tried Iburst @ all yet.

Exactly! Get that techie to ur home and test the connection. but do realise that Ekhaatvensters has terrible signal, but with his LOS he has excellent speeds. Some users have congested towers like me, so even with an average signal my speedtest (so far this month) is 30kB/s. That sucks. here is my sept speeds.

If your going to be using IBurst anywhere near Rosebank, Johannesburg please go away - I do not want you overloading my tower :)

Anyway I hear you can get Sentech modems really cheaply these days!

Roffel. Hes probaby coming from Sentech anyway.. gees, they're like Zimbabweans invading our nice connection because theres got all crappy and is forcing them to leave :(

@ Poster, You get a 7 day trial period like some people said, with your light green status you will also need an antenna best would probably be an directional one, especially if you have good LOS. But I dont thnk you can get a antenna with the trial, you might have to sort that out with a reseller, so give one a call and get him to come test, also download UTtracestar now and make him use that when he comes over, you can post the results from UTts here and we'll se how good your connection really is.

Be nice now :D

I'm zoned the lightest shade of green, get around 550 with the desktop modem on the wrong side of the house, placed exactly where the tester's laptop got 440. So antenna might not be necessary

If you want to change to Iburst, you're making a good choice. I've been with them for about 2 months now and they have given be great service. (Except for that little episode 2 days ago, but let's not talk about that".

Generally, if you're near a tower, you should get good signal and speeds. I average at about 70kB/s downloading speed, so I'm very happy with Iburst.

Also if you are going to be connecting to the Northcliff tower, don't use IBurst. That's what I have able to gather from a couple of other posts, it seems that the tower is heavily overloaded. See the thread with Lebohang in the title.

Seriously, the tower in Rosebank is also quite overloaded. Always between 2 and 3. I connect to Forrest Town which is much better.

He already gave his posistion, and it was quite out of the way if I remember.

But just get that test, and also dont let any reseller come out and tell you "wow, these speeds are great, like 500kbps is realy good" just becasue a speed test peaked at 500kbps or something like that. Ive had some experience with resellers that were way too kean to just get the sale and arent looking out for you at all.

Jip. good advice. do something like: get netmeter to give you an average download speed of a single thread download. then monitor utStar as well. will give you the best idea of ur situation.
