Since it's been further delayed I'm wondering if there is a way to download the client (15g+ I know...) somewhere? I have my head start keys (thank you BT Games) and have created accounts, all I need now is the freakin client!!!!

Anyone have some ideas? Saw somewhere that you can use the beta client. Is this the case? Has anyone tried this? If you can, is there a local mirror, or is anyone willing to put one up?

Needing answers from the community here, since it is clear you shouldn't rely on EA South Africa.

You definitely get the impression that if breathing wasn't a reflex, half of EA SA's staff would be dead a looong time ago.
 
HS keys expire soon, like tomorrow afaik...
gamersloot keys are $70 hmmmm
 
FK WAR !, FK EA Games! and who else is behind this.

I will now stay on WoW and play WoTLK instead. I will not give EA games a bloody cent
 
Yeah, but what exactly does it mean they expire? I used the HS keys and validated them and created accounts. I also got my friend from the UK to create placeholder toons for us on the servers where my ex WOW guildies have rolled.

Man, I should have just order from Amazon UK and got my friend to ship it, rather than rely on these local EA palookas.

Anyway, still no clues on whether you can use the beta client and patch it to play the retail game?
 
Very annoyed when I saw it's only coming 'early next week' too. EA South Africa need to get their act together.

Otherwise a trusted site is www.Direct2drive.com, but apparently it's only for USA and Europe, so it won't let you download with a SA IP. You can get around that with a proxy, but can't say I've tried it.

There is also a local server hosting the client, you can PM me for the link. But still need to find a site which sells the keys at a reasonable price... $70 is crazy.

I wouldn't recommend the Beta Client, we had MAJOR problems , it simply did not want to patch, you must login to patch [so you need an active account already]. Problem seems to be related to the Beta pointing to US Servers and unless you had a BETA account or a US retail account you can't login to patch.

On top of that, expect a 1GB type of patch easily to patch to retail. The BETA i had was 9.6GB or so, the EU client i have now is 12GB already...

EA also responded and said the client that's downloaded from Direct2Drive etc, are the US client and will not work for EU.

So if you can find a EU-beta , then sure, but don't waste 10GB of your bandwidth for a beta client you're not absolutely sure will work on EU.

Here's the response i got from EA when i couldn't patch:
--What can I do if I'm getting Authentication Failed error?--
Make sure you are running warpatch.exe and not war.exe directly. Make sure you're using the right client (ie american client uses fileplanet download, and eu client uses goa's download). If you have the retail version you may also want to uninstall the beta client and reinstall with your retail version.

Thanks for the heads up diabolus. I downloaded the beta client, but it looks like it's US too..

Would have been very annoyed to pay $70 then still couldn't play.

What a nightmare.
 
Seeing as a lot of people pre-ordered and got their HS keys through BTGames, this would be such a good PR thing for BTGames to step up to the plate and either offer the client at their shops for a nominal fee or a local link to it?

This is surely not an infringement to the copy right holders, since I'm assuming like WOW the media is not copy protected, and you have paid for the key?

Maybe someone from BT Games actually reads these forums and could give us and answer?

P.S. I know that this is clearly not a fckup from BT Games's side (looking at you EA SA), but I feel they are missing a trick here in showing and retaining clients!


Ah well, this just shows that the local game retailers have a little way to go to really show they care.

Awsome! holding my breath! Would be great if someone could host the 900MB patch aswell, but I'm being demanding I know!
 
I'd like it too, but apparently the updater patches the files individually. If you can find a link post it here though.

I heard it as well, was hoping that the patch would be first downloaded to a folder in the installation directory. A bit silly, especially since I'm going to have to install this on three machines.

Most MMOs allow you to just copy the game folder onto another machine without doing a reinstall. Hopefully WAR allows this too.

According to a friend that already downloaded the client its true, you can only copy the game.
I am so pissed right now, even went on EA's forums but i don't think any ranting there will help. One of my friends is posting the client to me, but will obviously only be here on Thursday.:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

and $70 dollars for a key is a joke
