I recently installed Vista Ultimate and everything seems to be working fine besides my wireless (dont care about that atm) and my Warcraft 3 :D

When I try to open it if gives me the follow message:

Warcraft III was unable to initialize DirectX. Please ensure you have DirectX 8.1 or newer installed and that your display drivers are current. DirectX may be found on your Warcraft III install CD under Options.

Iv tried "run as administrator" and compatibility thing. I also tried to download DirectX 9.0c and install that...that didnt work.

Currently I am running DirectX 10 and I think that is what is causing the problem.

http://www.iexbeta.com/wiki/index.php/Windows_Vista_Software_Compatibility_List -- says it should work in ME and so on...tried that ...didnt work

Iv spoken to 1 guy that said his Warcraft 3 is working fine for him and his friends on Vista. Maybe it has something to do with my hardware also...GFX maybe.

Iv got XP and Vista installed...on dif partions and the PC im using:
Dell Inspiron 9100 - with latest drivers
Radeon 9800 256mb
3.0Ghz P4 HT
1gig ram

Theres gotta be someone out there that can help me :)...plz...

War3 also works fine for me and my friends on Vista :D

Just to completely not help you.

Well, do all of your other games work? It could be some sort of driver thing, me and the other people using Vista have Nvidia cards, so maybe the latest ATI Vista drivers might help.

I've been on Vista now for little more than 2 months and at first very few apps and games worked, but Warcraft 3 was one game that worked 110% :D

Now I've either found resolutions for my other probs or I found updates of the apps and Vista itself updated the day after the official release.

I'm a very happy Vista user now :D

set the compatibility to win 98/me...

(read so on the warcraft forums...don't know if it works..)

right click the shortcut to the program, and click properties - compatiblity settings should be visible...

i never said it wasnt there....i tried all that...didnt work...even disable visual themes and whatever. Im starting to think its my GFX card :/

WOW 3 only uses DX 7. AFAIK
Weird it should ask for 8.1 or newer

I dont think it's your gfx card either seeing that ATI and Microsoft teamed up when they've created vista. You can try download the latest drivers though with catalyst and all that.

Good luck

It wont allow me to install 9.0c....theres a 9.1?
link maybe i cant find it on microsoft site ;/

You cannot install any other Direct X on a Vista machine. It comes preinstalled with Vista. Direct X 10. Have no idea how Metalspawn did it, but I think someone is confused...and it's not me. You cannot downgrade your DirectX version.

Make sure you have downloaded the latest updates for your Vista. Then again, my WarCraft 3 worked from the start, without any updates.

I have a original copy and a *cough*fake*cough* and both works 100% on my Vista 64bit Ultimate.
