Warning!! 3G card on Snow Leopard uses consistent bandwidth!!
Have you guys noticed the amount of bandwidth Snow Leopard uses, even when idle?
I installed Little Snitch to monitor the situation - mDNSResponder is the culprit. Consistently sending and receiving data!!!
Apparently has something to do with how Bonjour works on Snow Leopard. And don't even try disabling it - then you can't access the web at all!!
I've only noticed this when I plug my 3G card (Huawei E272) directly into my Mac. Tried the older version 2 Vodafone Mobile Connect and the newer version 3 Vodafone Mobile Broadband (download the new version 3 at the following link - it's awesome - even supports SMS now http://support.vodafone.com).
This doesn't happen when I use tethering on my iPhone (via bluetooth) or when I share the connection on my E272 on my network from a PC.
So just be careful is you using a 3G card with Snow Leopard - you might get a pretty big surprise when you get your bill at the end of the month!
Could you guys also try this out with your data cards and report back on your findings. You can download Little Snitch at the following link (has a 3 hour trial built-in) http://www.obdev.at/products/littlesnitch/index.html
