Warning!! 3G card on Snow Leopard uses consistent bandwidth!!

Have you guys noticed the amount of bandwidth Snow Leopard uses, even when idle?
I installed Little Snitch to monitor the situation - mDNSResponder is the culprit. Consistently sending and receiving data!!! Apparently has something to do with how Bonjour works on Snow Leopard. And don't even try disabling it - then you can't access the web at all!!
I've only noticed this when I plug my 3G card (Huawei E272) directly into my Mac. Tried the older version 2 Vodafone Mobile Connect and the newer version 3 Vodafone Mobile Broadband (download the new version 3 at the following link - it's awesome - even supports SMS now http://support.vodafone.com).
This doesn't happen when I use tethering on my iPhone (via bluetooth) or when I share the connection on my E272 on my network from a PC.
So just be careful is you using a 3G card with Snow Leopard - you might get a pretty big surprise when you get your bill at the end of the month!

Could you guys also try this out with your data cards and report back on your findings. You can download Little Snitch at the following link (has a 3 hour trial built-in) http://www.obdev.at/products/littlesnitch/index.html

Don't know about SL yet... but the updated Vodacom software is aces!! Much improved over the last version. Thanks.

I havent noticed anything

Have you tried Little Snitch or even tried looking at the usage counter in the new version 3 Vodafone Mobile Broadband? What 3G card you using?
See it's also not doing at our ADSL line at work - only when I plug my 3G card in directly...

I sure it's the vodafone software not SL.

I only use my iPhone for 3G, don't trust vodafone software, it's rubbish.

Doubt it's the Vodafone software 'coz it does it with the older and newer software (which never happened in Leopard). Googled it a bit and found other ppl were having the same issues in Snow Leopard.

I've only noticed it when using my 3G card though - not when using my iPhone tethering...

Exactly my point, SL is new and vodafone are responsible for the 3G card compatibility.

The thread title is misleading this is only Vodafone 3G card related, not ADSL, Wifi etc.

Could be something with the Vodafone software. But then again, some ppl were complaining online about extra data usage when using their routers etc...
Hmmm... tried changing the subject but see I can only change it per post and not for the main subject :(

Anyone else tried it out yet??
