I got Telkom to replace my faulty router. Does this extend the warranty by another 12 months?

No will continue on from the original date of purchase.

This is a problem I have. A replaced unit should have it's own guarantee running from the date of replacement. I don't know if anyone who offers this

Thought so. Thanks all.

So I got a router with a grand 5 days of remaining warranty...

Because a warranty covers you for the original purchase period.

Um yes... But it's not the purchase that needs a warranty, it's the product. The replacement unit should be a new unit and should carry a warranty as if it was purchased on the day of replacement. Maybe qc will then play a bigger role. And the manufacturers will not produce crap you buy with your hard earned cash. The distributors will not try to flog rubbish as they will constantly have to replace said rubbish so they might rather opt to sell a quality product. Remember that not all people are tech savvy and they seldom know if the product is any good. All they have to go on is the salesman who would say just about anything to make the sale. And if the product you replace is not good enough to last the warranty period the purchaser should have the option to get his money back - not credit in store.
