hi guys

i help my friends out in instances, not high lvl ones, as im lvl 50.

I recently respecced from fury, to prot to try and learn how to tank. I was tired of people saying to me every 5 mins, "are you a tank?"

yeah.. so I guess I switched for the wrong reason, but I found that I really enjoyed it, so I decided to stick with it and learn/practice how to tank effectively..

then came the new patch... 3.02

now the prot tree is all different and im struggling to find an update on the net as to what talents I need to spec.

I know Im only lvl 50 and learnin aka. NOOB, but I would appreciate any help from the high lvl guys out there.

thank you

:o

I'll give you a few rules of tanking.

1. Always use sunder !!! Stack it.
2. Use Blood rage (not sure what it's called) Before you pull
3. To get aggro on a number of mobs in the first seconds of the fight, Thunderclap, demo shout. Then once you have that down make sure you have atleast 2 sunders on your main target and then rotate between all targets and just pop a sunder to keep them focused on you. Make sure they don't expire.

Only use taunt if one of your mobs has been pulled off you and is attacking another. Taunt then build on Sunders again.

Then above the sunders use Shield Slam, Shield bash and Heroic strike if you have enough rage to waste.

That sounds easier that it is but it's pretty easy if you practice a little :)

Check out tankspot.com all the answers you will ever need.

get shockwave as soon as possibly can. It rocks. Get the talents in prot that return damage every time you block. And get Warbringer. Charge in def stance is fun. Scare the willies out of your group by letting rogue get aggro, then run away and charge in, taunt to save his ass.

Enjoy yourself. Prot warrior has never been more fun. If you cause a wipe, tell them you have ****e gear. lol. Have fun mate. its a blast.

EDIT; The only talents you really need outside of Protection are deflection in arms and Cruelty in Fury.

lvl50?? got to Swamp of Sorrows and see how many spiders, crocs and ***** cats you can solo. Dont be afraid to pull more than 4 :D

tips

hi guys

thanks for all the tips...

One thing I have NOT being doing is rotating attacking mobs while in a group... I never knew that. Before the patch arrived I played an instance in the swamp of sorrows (i think) and sometimes sometimes they would break away, and I would use taunt (which worked well)...

but I played last night, and I didnt have ONE mob break away the whole instance, it was crazy. My TPS was through the roof, I could see on Omen. Previously there was never that BIG a gap, but now I am WAAAAAY ahead.

Also, my health has gone up nicely, im well above 4000 now which is nice. I dont have any enchants on my stuff, that is what I will be very busy with tonight....

Busy tryingt o find Shockwave talent on the net... not sure what it does and what lvl I need to be to use it...

Shockwave does nice damage and stuns them for 4 seconds, follow that up with a thunderclap and the mobs stick to you. Its 51 talents, so you wont get it before lvl 60 or so.

About your stats. With the recent patch strength is important. Some of your dmg is now attack pwr based instead of block value based. On the rotating targets, you need to be aware of something. Its called main assist. Your group should not be assisting you, because you are switching targets. Here's what you do:

1. Select someone else to be main assist. Hunter is best, because of the big red arrow he puts on target. Everyone just selects the main assist's target
2. When you rotate targets, you must give preference to the target which is the current focus of dps.
3. You only need to apply enough dmg to the other targets to negate the healing aggro. Keep aggro the target being dps's, but whack the others with a sunder or shield slam every 3rd shot or so, depending on your rage. How you rotate, really depends on the threat being generated by the dps. Use threatmeters. The more mobs you have on you the less problems you will have with rage.

Prior to patch 3, if you could hold 2 targets, you where good, 3, you where a master. 4 you are Illidan himself. Now you can grab the whole instance with thunderclap.

Use your thunderclap and demo shout to grab. Try and get the mage to polymorph AFTER you do your thunderclap. Its crucial you do this before your healer gets a heal off, otherwise they go straight for him. You should not get healed until after thunderclap.

If you and your grp can master this, you can take taunt of your toolbar. Okay maybe not, but you get the point :D

Taunt is your "oh crap" button.

Of course all of this is completely meaningless when you are in a pug. You will soon discover why warriors tanks dont do pugs :D(they do, but its rare)
