Ok, reached 6.28 Gigs on my 2 Gig Telkom hard capped account ( Due to there tracker not working properly for a few days ).

Anyways I got the whole official warning, that I have surpassed it and am now a "high end user" thing is that because I was moved to the average use option on my second day of use ( and 700 megs later :p ) I can still use it.

Question 1 ) What happens if you are a high end user often ?
Question 2 ) What happens if I still use it ?

Thanks in advance

I think telkom usage tracker went faulty and they seem to have reversed the capping. I also was capped this morning (received official email) but now my access has been restored. Once you are capped you will have no access on your username at all. As regards question 1 I don't think anyone has found out yet.

My one friend has a 2GB CAP with Telkom and he normaly gets 6GB-8GB with it.

How often does he go over? Cause according to the mail, normally your connection gets killed after you use over the 2 GB mark. Or does everyone get the "Average usage option" which keeps you online until a certain percentage reaches there cap?

I personally go over every month. I have never been below the 3GB mark on either my accounts.

Theres like a million threads here about users going well over their telkom cap. I averaged 12gigs on my 3gb account when i was with them, but nowadays they are more strict

Who the hell cares if we are all labeled high end users?

They are a bunch of thieves (Telskum and I***A).

They can both kiss my a$$. When is local going to be free? When they have ripped us off some more?

Ye well If there is no chance of ever getting kicked from telkom or having to pay more then I will aim for 12 GB on a 2GB cap ! :D

Capped: What I did.

When I was with Atlantic, I used to do the big downloads on the two last days of the month, before the new 3 GB allocation kicks in. Some months I downloaded 20GB's and I was never contacted or cr@pped on or something like that. Now I am with Telkom, but I have not tried it (hard disk allmost full).

BTW my contract expires in Jan 2007 and there does not seem to be an alternative to Telkom ADSL available. What now?

With the average usage policy right, is there a chance that I will remain online for the rest of the month if I get capped now?

Thing is, im about 100 MB off my cap, and have quite a lot of stuff that I want to download.

Is it really done by average usage, or just another name for a soft cap ?

thanks!

The average usage policy seems to be an arbitrary figure that telkom uses to hardcap users when they feel like it. I have been verbally informed that if you get capped 3 times in a row they will classify you as an abuser and refuse to allow you to remain on their network. This is against the adsl regulations and AFAIK has never yet been implemented.

BTW once you are capped you have no access to the network

I have been capped way way more than 3 times in a row. Well I cap both my accounts each month. Usually use WebAfrica end of the month.

My first account was capped yesterday, now ill just use my second account slowly until the end.

Makes no sense me going over to a second account if the first one is still working perfectly fine. Also no customer should be killed to check usage every single morning and night.

If they deny access, I deny payment, and move to an Internet Solutions baed account, and Imaginet for international. Also Neotel when they launc first quarter next year.

They have not given me personally any warning so....

Have you never received any of these new emails where they threaten to blacklist you. AFAIK they only started sending them out in Oct 2006.

I have not received those e-mails no, but I have also never requested those usage e-mails be sent in the first place.

People wont get any e-mails from Telkom unless they have actually gone to the page and requsted the daily/weekly e-mail report.

I check my usage at userstats.saix.co.za, far more accurate.

this is a extract from telkoms emails " As you have reached your service threshold on your combined total usage, we suggest that you reduce your high volume usage to remain online and unaffected.

You will be allowed access until such time that the overall service reaches the aggregated threshold on the total service.

Should you elect to ignore this reminder your service could be subject to restrictions, at which point your access to our network will be denied."

And I managed to continue using it after I got capped.

The only reason people are staying with TelkomInternet is because you can go over your usage limit, they remove their "relaxed capping" everyone jumps ship to a cheaper ISP.

Face it R249 gets you ~ 5GB from another ISP.
