Ok guys, my wife and I need to buy a washing machine for us. I have never bothered with washing machines (jip), so now I'm doing some research. My wife prefers a top loader and I think 8kg capacity should be enough for us. I've come across this promotion:

Do you think it is any good? What other tips can you guys provide in buying a washing machine?

Thanks:)

We have a Samsung front loader and it works perfectly.

Wait... why get married if you have to buy a machine to do the washing in the first place?

We have the Samsung toploader. Very happy with it indeed! Worth the money! I personally dont like front loaders!

Don't top loaders need a separate hot water connection?
I would go for a front loader, have used both and the front loader seems to work better.

My roommate got that exact Samsung yesterday. So far so good. It even plays a song when its done its cycle :D

And those they use in laundromats are even better.

Correct, we have a Speed Queen bought 15 years ago, only ever used the cold water inlet.

Problem with the Speed Queen (and Whirlpool) is that they are too big for the average washing machine location.

That is why when we move we will probably be going with the 13kg Samsung top loader.

As for the hot water, how many washing machine installations have provision for both hot and cold water?

So you're actually saying you never washed your clothes before getting married? Congrats then, must be hard getting a girl when you stink to high heaven :D

But yeah, the Samsungs are pretty good, I have an older model of that one and it's the only thing I've had for that long (7 years) that hasn't broken yet. I'm not sure about that new one but if it has the plastic, cartridge-type filter (as opposed to the sieve one that most other machines use and wears out after a while), it's really maintenance free.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I'm budgeting R2000 for the washing machine and looking to buy it cash. I hear what some of you are saying regarding the 13kg, but I don't think you can get a decent one for R2000. (And then you get 5kg front loaders who are double my budgeted amount, but I hear the higher price are for the higher efficiency they provide). My wife also says 13kg, but I think 8kg should suffice for us for now, we can always upgrade later on.

To the guys who own that model or a similar one. What is the noise-level of it? We live in a flat on the second floor, so don't want to be a nuisance for others.

It's not impossible. Especially if you live with your parents

Dude you're not buying a PC.I've got a 13kg LG top loader and had it for 10 years. If you're going to buy a WM spend that extra and buy a good one.
