Reminds me of this lady http://www.thelocal.se/7869/20070712/ with the 40gb internet connection. i think she got a similar type of Cisco router.

Sigbritt will now be able to enjoy 1,500 high definition HDTV channels simultaneously. Or, if there is nothing worth watching there, she will be able to download a full high definition DVD in just two seconds.

The router is designed to cope with the demands of a rapid Internet growth and is intended for major Internet junction nodes.

its not for home use and will probably never be. guys like SAIX use them

To put that into context, 522 exabytes is approximately the equivalent of downloading 125 billion DVD movies a month.

Is it just me or is this sentence a bit stupid...522 exabytes will be approximately the equivalent of downloading 125 billion DVD movies if I do it in a month or a year. So I did it in 2 months, does it make it less or more data? So the month bit at the end was a bit of a useless tag in my opinion.

Seriously, if you want to be married and never get laid, get one of these.

But I have used my legendomiter, and extracted what you actually meant by what you said. Yeah, one day that kind of capacity might be commonplace, looking at future technologies like Ultra High Definition Video, which uncompressed could be as large as 3.5Tb for a 20 minute broadcast(apologies for the wikipedia quoting), but that is a long time away. We will see it, but by the time you would ever need anything near that kind of capacity, it will be of a size that might actually make it suited for home use. And to use that kind of capacity, you would pretty much have to have every square inch of your home covered in screens with some kick-ass high definition, constantly blaring...

Now add Telkom to the picture, you would need those guys from Time Warp to film your data usage at 10 000 frames per second, and they would still struggle to show you where exactly in the first 0.2 seconds exactly you ran out of bandwidth...:p I think its between frame 1278 and 1279 somewhere...can we try it at 20 000 frames per second?

Interesting article, though a tad mis-leading. the ASR 9000 has a fabric switching capacity of 6.4 terabit, which I must say is impressive considering the size of the device. I've been looking at these to use potentially in place of buying any more Cisco 7609S's for certain points on the TENET network, however they arent really built to do the same job.

For ethernet services this thing makes a lot of sense in many ways, I'm curious as to what the next generation CRS system from Cisco is going to look like (The Cisco CRS-1 which is stackable and currently routes at approx. 1.2 terabit per unit, stackable up to 72 deep, to give you 90+ terabit/second) is a HELL of a lot bigger and more pricey than these things (think 10+ million, 42U high, weighing 750kgs and utilizing 14.2 kilowatt of power on the CRS versus this thing that is less than a meter high, weighs in at around 170KG's (fully loaded), and only draws 3.1 Kilowatt of power, though thats expandable. It's come a long way, and would certainly reduce data centre hosting costs and hence in many ways drive down prices.
