Watch TV?

Guys, need some help.
I have an LG 3D TV, running my Playon HD wireless that streams all my media to the TV.
I DO NOT have DSTV.
I want to find a solution to watch international news, weather etc etc.
What do you recommend?
Would an HTPC be able to do this?
Is there software?

I want to watch it on my TV in decent quality but I am not prepared to pay those DSTV criminals.

Any advice?

That would only work if your in the US, and also if you have hulu/netflix/etc subscriptions..... isn't it?


Somehow I just envision errors popping up while trying to access those 300+ channels

Can't you chaps get Netflix or any other provider in SA? If you are censored why don't you go the annon route? Further, there are plenty of free tv channels on the net but if you want top movies and sport you'll have to pay. Mind you, local SA rugby might not be streamed unless you go the highly expensive Dstv route.

Why would you call DSTV criminals. It is the other way around. Think about the horror situation if Multichoice, Mnet and DSTV never surfaced in this country, and we were stuck with SABC only, like we were since 1976 to 1986.

DSTV subscription, what is it, around R700 a month ?

Thats R23.30 a day. Is that criminal.

I think you are confusing DSTV with government that regulates the airways and causes monopolies.

Me, I pay DSTV gladly, and I will pay them that for the sport channels only. What they give is more than fair.

It has a CNN app in the store but not tested it as I am not much of a news fan.
I am out of hospital tomorrow, so will test it for you.

At the main Roku website you can view the list of channels (apps) the available. Will go dig out a link when the nurses are done with their stuff.

Being cheap? Really? So you think wasting R700 approx on watching what a few channels, with the same junk over and over again is being cheap? Sorry if you want to be stupid and pay these exorbitant rip off prices then go ahead and do it. Not our fault you are stupid then is it?
 
TopTV has quite a few news channels and far cheaper than DSTV.
