a friend at work lent me a dvd with about 5 or 6 movies on it. from past experience with his movies i cannot watch them on my dvd player and can only watch them on my computer. is it possible to copy each one on a seperate disc to watch through my dvd player or should i just burn another copy of his disc and watch it through my pc.

I suspect these dvd's are actually data dvds with avi's of some sort. Not all dvd players (most) dont play avi's and would therefor require you to convert the avi back into a dvd.

What are the file names on the dvd? Do they end in .avi? mpg?

Depending on the equipment you have you might be able to connect the tv to the pc as a second monitor and watch them that way.

morning bwana i have not checked all the videos files but i did notice one was mpg format.

What make of DVD player do you have. mpg files play on most dvd players but the older DVD players do not play multi dvd disc.

So copy them on a single CD-R disc then they should play, provided that each file is not more than 700mb.

If they are all dvd video files but where copied onto this dvd in data format they will not play in the newer dvd players (part of the anti-piracy measures, I suspect). Copy them onto your pc then copy them back onto another dvd using the dvd video files option.

hi guys i see they are mpeg files and i tried to copy the 5 through nero onto another disc butitdid not work so i just copied them to my computer however when i starting watching one it hangs then plays and hangs again. was thinking maybe i have enough storage space on my pc but not enough to play the movie smoothly.

Google ConvertXtoDVD if you want to play them in a normal set-top DVD player. Or just play it on a PC with VLC as suggested.

Depending on the quality of the original conversion and the quality of the DVD your buddy gave you the file might be corrupted or it may have it's index broken. As someone above said you can try the free VLC player application to play.

While DVD players usually play MPG files those are usually in the CD-Video format,
and so if burned on DVD seperately they may not play, they need to be in the proper
directory structure on the CD for the DVD player to recognise them as a VideoCD.

As someone else said the other video files may be AVI, MOV or even MKV files. These are different container formats for video and your player will probably not be able to play these back. You'll need to convert each file to an MPEG2 M2V file and then burn a VIDEO
DVD (standard playable DVD) using Nero, Roxio EzyDVD Creator or one of many other 3rd
party apps around. They may even do this all for you in one step and allow you to
add a DVD menu if you want to play with that. Remember also that some files may be HD files (with higher res) so additional settings will need to be enabled in the conversion/DVD mastering/burning program (resampling/downscaling).

For their trip to the moon USA spend millions to produce a pen that can write in space.
Russia on the other hand...just use the pencil.

@ waynegohl

Since you want to watch the movies on your tv...
1 Use nero to create a VCD,not dvd...older dvd players don't like dvdr's,but have no problem with cdr's.
2 Choose ONE file from the disc, not from the files on your pc.
3 Create vcd and play

done.
