No. In fact it ejects warmer air. It's also noiser than a fridge or A/C. So I've put it in my laundry next to the open cat flap, so that air can circulate and the sound doesn't bother me. One benefit is it filters the air, if you have allergies that might be beneficial.

My solar electric gear is about 15 years old. Regulator is fine. Inverter is 200W sine wave which is great for load shedding. Panel is 85W.

So, no, not at the moment. Will need new panels and an inverter as it draws 495W.

But when I buy a house later this year when prices have tanked I will upgrade it and run it off that.

It has three top tanks for hot, room temperature and cold water. I haven't turned on that heating and cooling though.

15L in 20 hours my first run. I haven't been tracking it since but I think it's a bit less due to lower humidity. It works better with more humidity. You'll get 20L a day at 85% relative humidity and 30 degrees Celsius.

You shouldn't drink aircon water.

A majority of answers state no. Reasons include bacterial and possible heavy metal contamination.

A minority of answers also point out that condensate is almost de-ionised, making it less than ideal for sustenance.

In engineering parlance, condensate is equivalent to rain water in terms of cleanliness: boil first.

You shouldn't drink aircon water.

Seriously. Condensate and rain water are cleaner than anything you'll find in a tap. Why do you need to boil perfectly clean water. Do you think there isn't any bacteria growing inside everything, even the normal taps and pipes in your home.
People that give this kind of advice better boil all the water they use and then seal whatever containers they store the water in, in the same way you would under presure and heat like when you can or pickle stuff.
Better keep all that bacteria out, dishwashing liquid isn't sufficient, I hope jou guys have a better way of sterilisating all your glasses, cutlery, plates.....

Thanks, but there is zero information in any of those threads from a person who actually owns one.

I looked into these for my wife's small business as she needs 100-200L a day of potable water. The cost would outweigh the business lost of not having these machines as I would need to buy 5-6 of their units to produce this amount of water if we had perfect humidity in the air.

That is R150K investment along with operating costs of up to R200 per day (450w per unit running 24/7). Our worst case loss of income for DayZero is significantly less than that even if this where to be a repeat event next year.


Look, if you are wanting to replace a serviced water cooler in the office then I think these are great but not as a way to go off grid.
