Water tasting and smelling weird - Fourways

Is anybody else in the northern suburbs also noticing that the water has a sandy kind of smell/taste to it? I've tasted the water at a few different places around here and it all tastes the same, so it's not just unique to the water at my home.

It tastes horrible.
 
Taste it and smell it in Wilgeheuwel, asked other people in the complex they said they don't notice the difference.
Apparently it's caused by alga sigh
 
Been lots of work on pipes in the area. I'm sure it will flush out soon enough.
 
Big upgrade coming on Tuesday. Fourways water is going to be off the whole day. So more of that white stuff to be flushed out.

It's disgusting. I'm in Harveston and it tastes and smells horrible. Then down in Wilgeheuwel it's the same. I tweeted Joburg Water about it twice now but they don't reply of course.
 
Randpark Ridge's water has also had a similar taste and smell issues. Where possible, I have now substituted my water with whisky. Neat. No rocks. Neat. I must say that this made a difference.
 
I've also noticed a sandy taste to the water recently, I'm in Midrand
 
It smells like Hamsters ass. Least that's what my water smells like.
 
I haven't intentionally drank municipal water in years. The stuff tastes terrible, and Carte Blanche has covered how nasty it is several times. Most of the taps in my house give filtered water. If someone fills up the water dispenser in the fridge with municipal water accidentally I can taste it immediately. That stuff is not right. Installing a filtration system wasn't cheap, but well worth it.

Doubtful. The chlorine should kill the alga first thing.

The algae is dead but the remainder causes the smell and taste, big thing in CT about three years ago.
 
I wouldn't trust water in some municipalities, especially not gauteng way with all the sewerage issues, acid mine water etc. Filters, good ones not the budget ****3, really are worth every penny. If you only use them for filtering the drinking water the cost per litre is peanuts. I've used the H2O filter that's around R1500 and the water tastes amazing, lasted around 6yrs till I decided I should probably replace it, water still seemed fine though.
