Hi,

I just signed up for wazzup and must say it's flying, at least at the moment.

Hope they stay that way, but due to the fact that they don't offer a 4Mb uncapped I think they might manage.

I was with SAOL before and moved my line to them. Took my one email and they transfered it back to telkom within notice period. No hussle there. Only downside is that it takes the 30 days notice period to transfer line back, but I think it's worth it.

When upgrading it seems to take a while. I was on a 384 line with telkom and wazzup activated me within 2 hours but also on 384. Will see how long it will take them to upgrade my line to 512. Up to it does what it says on the box.

that is very positive.thanks for valuable information mate.if it is hussle free than i will go to wazzup :)

I'm with Wazzup now for 5 days. It's flying. I have no complaints. Their support department seems a bit small, but otherwise they are good. They also don't have their own SMTP server. You have to use smtp.adslaccess.co.za.

Just signed up with myBB to give my 2c on this.

I've been with Wazzup for a week now. I was also a bit concerned about transferring my DSL circuit to them, but with a 30 day cancellation period I can't see it being a real problem.

A Bit of History

My first attempt to get DSL at home was via MWEB with their 384 Complete offering. After placing the order and uploading the scans of the various items of paperwork they required, I sat back and waited the prescribed 3 weeks. I thought it better not to bother them and wait for feedback instead. When I finally phoned them as I had waited approximately the required period of time, the MWEB rep wasn't sure what the status was with my order.

She called back a half an hour or so later to tell me that they cannot process my order as Telkom informed them that there are no FIOs or IFOs (or something like that) available. So Telkom was not interested in installing DSL on behalf of MWEB.

I subsequently found out via a "connection" that the ports on the DSLAM on the exchange I connect to were full, so they needed to add another set of ports (presumably the FIO mentioned previously). I thanked the MWEB rep for the feedback and cancelled my order.

At this point in the story I must add that I cannot fault MWEB on the fact that Telkom were being obstinate (and, frankly, anti-competitive). What I can fault, though, is that I received no feedback during the period I had waited. Anyway, this is not about MWEB, so hijack over...

Telkom DSL

I then proceeded to order a DSL line direct from Telkom. With a few calls from my "connection" (what makes you think I live in Durban :) ), the DSL line was up and running in approximately one week. Amazing how the FIO (or whatever) could get installed for a direct client. Anyhoo...

After much reading on myBB, my decision came down to WebAfrica Titan or Wazzup Uncapped 384. I had some fruitful conversations via email with various WA reps and I must say that I'm impressed with their customer service. Though, in the end, I decided to go with Wazzup. Although the responses from Andre (Andre@WazzupInternet) on myBB were not met with much happiness, I appreciated his candour and honesty. I felt that the terms of their offering were clear and would meet my expectations for an uncapped account.

Wazzup Internet

I placed my order for their 384k Uncapped Unshaped DSL service via their online order page. I had some issues while signing up, so I called them. First, I spoke to Albert, who addressed my first issue. Then, as I was finalising the order, their captcha script gave me uphill, so I called them again. This time I spoke to (the previously mentioned) Andre. He runs the business, yet he also mans the support line. The cynical among you (and I've noticed there are quite a few around here ;) ) will say that this only means the company is small. Rather, I'd say that his interest in my call and willingness to spend 20-30 minutes answering my questions shows his commitment to an honest relationship between Wazzup and their clients. After putting down the receiver on this call, I had every confidence that I'd made the right choice.

  • I placed the order at 16h49.
  • The order confirmation email came through at 18h28.
  • I received my login details at 20h36.
As the account was only going to be activated in two days' time, they gave me 1Gb of data free of charge to tide me over until then. I was flabbergasted, both by the speed with which my order was processed and the free data.

I could use the account immediately (no waiting for the DSL circuit to transfer from Telkom). Incidentally, I received notification this morning that my DSL circuit is now transferred to Wazzup, FWIW.

The line speeds are as advertised and I've not seen any form of shaping as yet. My ping to Joburg is sub 80ms and just over 100ms to Cape Town.

In short, I'm delighted with Wazzup and recommend them without hesitation. Though it must be remembered (for those users planning to download the whole internet each month), that the uncapped account is based on fair SOHO (small office, home office) usage. As long as you understand that, you will not be disappointed.

Cheers,

Andrew

International is being affected by the Seacom outage, so I'll post the tests again when life is back to normal.

Youtube buffers well enough for my needs, though not in "real-time" at the moment. I have to pause for 30 seconds before starting the video (really depends on the size). To get an idea of the download speed from YouTube, I downloaded a video using keepvid.com. Here's the speed I was getting on Chrome consistently (not deviating by more than 2kB or so, either way:

Don't know if this help, but I don't know how else to quantify YouTube buffering performance.

All tests were performed via Wifi. Too bog lazy to find a cable. I have no idea how much/if this will affect speed tests.

hi there.i just got my wazzup today and i will give more speed report very soon.i could give now but seacom is down so after it turns normal i will give more speed test details.cheers
