Hey there everyone.

Am I the only one who is not impressed with the lack of change at iburst?

Ive been a iburst users for just over 2 years now. In those 2 years i feel that absolutely nothing has changed at iburst in terms of speed and data. Sure there was a secret pricing change that you had to apply for  but that is just not enough.

The Internet as an entity is dynamic, always changing. Video streaming and bandwidth intensive sights are becoming more common.

But still we sit here with our (up to) 1Mbit/s connection, and low cap. Not to mention the price we pay for that.

Times are Changing iburst.

Perhaps a wake-up call is in order?

Are you one of the unfortunate individuals for who iBurst is the only broadband option available?

yes.

But as soon as this changes, im leaving iburst.

Is iburst's target market really the "I have no other option" users?

no - our company got sick of the ADSL that was on for one day, off the next (The time axxess screwed up)

we were about to get axxess uncapped, but after that mess the company decided to get iBurst.

fsck - now iBurst works every day, but BARELY. I hate them!

(Damn you axxess - why did you do that!)

I thought I was until I applied for ADSL... I'm currently paying for a 4MB line but am only receiving 1.5MB due to the distance that I am from the exchange.

But still! 1.5MB IS still faster than iBurst and more stable!! No external antenna needed either!

I finished my 5GB cap yesterday and am considering packing it up in its box, to use only for emergency reasons.

They should offer a pre-paid option... I've left the account active but with no package, so I don't pay them anything. Only if I need to for emergencies..

Going with the uncapped axxess route..

They should at least increase the throttled speed after cap to something more 21st century. I am waiting to see what happens post Seacom go-live date. I am pretty sure there are a lot of us in the same boat.

... good luck!

We (iBurst users - http://hellburst.za.net) have been demanding change from this company since the network was handed over to the local network technicians.

The only thing iBurst responds to, is extensive exposure in the media.

My advice would be to switch to a metro net, WiFi ISP, Neotel or 3G (Vodacom, MTN, Telkom) provider.

Also, do inform prospective users of the iBurst network - that on average they can only expect hassle free internet connectivity for one week out of every month; if it is a good month.

Regards

Mike

I agree, Iburst need to lower their prices. The cellphone companies is providing a up to 7.2 Mbps service, while Iburst is still at the 1Mbps service.

As soon as I can afford ASDL I wont think twice.

Improve your service Iburst or you gonna loose a mooooovies amount of users come 2010 with its bandwidth promises!

I joined IBurst over 2 years ago @ R389 pm x24 for the device and 2.5GB of data. Their new packages aren't cheaper or offer more value for money.
So now I downgraded it to Playa500 for my mum in Potch and I joined Neotel and I'm happy as a pig in ....
As soon as Neotel are in Potch, I will ask her to switch as well.

Why put up with IBurst any longer if you have other options available.

PS - IBurst hinted at testing a 2Mb/s modem BEFORE I joined them...That died a very quiet death

Though really even if iburst offered 2mbs at one point in say.....ever.....would most of us even consider it a valid draw point considering the mammoth cost of the modems? Do you all honestly want to pay R4000 for another modem (a rough guess - chances are it'd be even more pricey as that iburst africa link has its cost as TWICE the 1mbs modem) on a service as unreliable as this?

Hi guys

Your concerns have been noted. I have sent on all posts under this thread to the Heads of Product Development.

I have suggested an Ideas mailbox which will just be for the forum and these mails will go straight to the P.D. department.

Thank you

Cheers

Shaun

Yes, thanks for taking note of this.

Although, as Basjohn says what price will the end user have to pay for change?
And how much change will be enough change? It would have to be a drastic upgrade, something that would be able to hold its own for some years to come.

I dont really see the point of incresing the speed higher than 2Mb/s, the high amount of shaping and low cap negates the speed increase imo.

Increasing soft cap speed, and cap would go a long way.

Well done Shaun!

I wish everybody at Iburst would mind as much as he does for the subscribers. Really man I think you should get one hell of a raise and become the CEO of the company!

Keep up the good work :D

Talk is all we ever get from iburst... from the promise of 2Mbps 4 years ago to bigger cap and lower pricing... so much for that... best solution ever? get yourself dsl

I agree man. But like some1 said, how much is a new modem gonna cost. It feels like I must use my modem till the "2Mbps" service comes along, then throw it away and spent another R2000+ to buy a better one, then sitting with the same crap we get now. I wonder whats the 1Mbps modem's capability is, maybe a firmware update would make it a 2Mbps modem!BTW when last was there a firmware update for our modems??? 0_0

I agree. Obviously 2mbit would be nice, sure bigger cap would be nicer (at the same price) or otherwise a price-drop would also gather alot of customers.

But i must say, Comparing Iburst to 3G or even HSDPA, is a massive difference specially in price. R189 for 500mb bundle, R289 for 1gig bundle. Also once that cap is reached they simply cut you off (end of story).

At least with Iburst you don't get cut off totally, infact "upto 64K" is quite good for browsing the net, emails etc

Keep it Real :)

My major issue with iburst is technical support.
I can live with the slow "64kbs" connection that is frequently nothing close to that when I've utilised my 1gb for the month, given it's an always on connection that costs a very reasonable (for SA) R200.
My contention is that every single time without fail that I call the helpdesk with a connection issue my intelligence is insulted and I am patronised by call center staff who refuse to listen to the complaint, and insist on repeating the mantra of "yes sir, I understand that you have absolutely no connection at all, not just that it's slow, but you just need to buy more cap" in response to every single issue. As I result I end up hanging up the phone in disgust and playing solitaire until such time as my connection comes up again.
That one issue alone is enough to cause me to wait with bated breath for a connection as good or hopefully even better and not telkom to become available in my area.
Roll on July....
