'We don't allow Nigerians in here'

The OP implied someone was beat up.... by bouncers......did I miss something?

That's a great sign. Considering that there are hundreds of great little coffee shops in Amsterdam to buy good quality weed and hashish you'd be a fool to buy anything from a dealer in the streets.

The service from reception was probably similar to a dealer in the streets. By the level of service, you may be thinking up-market scungy. This was down-market scungy.

Note: I had arrived in Amsterdam 2 hours previously. It was getting dark and I needed warmth and shelter quickly. I found more acceptable lodgings the following day.

A flood of memories have been released. Here is an illustrative anecdote. It was bitterly cold (this is a key element – the severe cold), the rooms had metal-framed tiers of bunk-beds 3 high, a fried egg sandwich was part of the deal (salmonella was free) and you got it in a dark dining area where your boots stuck to the tacky floor and the tables were also tacky (as I found when I rested my forearms on the table). A service of the ‘hotel’ was a lockable room. You locked your backpacks and personal stuff in a separate room so they weren’t stolen while you slept. It wasn’t a homeless refuge because all residents were under 30. It had one thing going for it; it was warm. There was a guy in my room (call him Euro-X) sleeping in the tier against the wall. He had obviously been in the place for weeks without going outside (I suspect he was into heroin) and was none too clean; his face was a mass of blackheads.

The next day I went to the flea market (very good) to get a warmer pair of gloves. Coming back and approaching the hotel I saw Euro-X exiting on to the street. He appeared briefly in the doorway and his face blurred. I thought it was my eyes tearing from the cold. I continued towards the hotel and glanced at Euro-X as we passed. The cold had tightened his skin as he had stepped outside and all his blackheads had come out about a millimetre. He had a blackhead ‘fur’ all over his face. This was why his face had seemed to blur at a distance. The outlines were softened by the ‘fur’ when his face reacted to the cold. Ugh.

Yes, it unfortunately so, but it does not excuse the doorman and his manager's behaviour.

If I turn it around and say "South Africans are known to be corrupt therefore I do not want to do business with you", how would you as a South African feel?

Like when you apply for a visa
and they want your life-history
before giving you one.

Yes, your country's reputation
precedes you.

Ugh, indeed! Made me think of that fake internet pic of the areola infested with botfly-type maggots. Think I can put off thoughts of eating for a while longer.

"Right of admission reserved"

The owner can use his "own" discression as to who he wants in his club or not. They don't want drug wielding Nigerians and thus based on that exclude all Nigerians by default. I fail to see the problem. As always the press turns a little thing into a massive issue taken completely out of context. Excluding 100 Nigerians would not have been a problem 99 times but now because this Nigerian is a doctor all of a sudden it's a problem.

Fk it, the owner doesn't want Nigerians in his club and he has the full right to decide who goes in and who does.

Nothing more, nothing less.

the majority of crime in South Africa is committed by a certain race.

Therefore the owner has the right to refuse entry to all people of this race.

Perhaps in an ideal situation. In the current situation, non-black criminals are scared to operate (burglaries, prowling, etc.) in case they get molested by black criminals. Ergo, the majority of crime is committed by black criminals.

They have the freedom to operate and they know the justice system sucks. If caught, they have a better-than-average chance of being freed because of bumbling incompetence (dossiers lost, blood samples destroyed, bribery & corruption, forensic & crime scene ignorance, etc.). Or they may be viewed as ‘struggle comrades’.

I know of a club/bar in Berlin that only allows Russians. No Germans/English/Americans allowed. Afrikaners were welcome though :p

Next time the Nigerian should try and sell his cat food at a different Prawn restaurant.
