Results announcing the new party president could be made as late as 10pm, according to the ANC.

The party is doing all it can to protect the integrity of the vote-counting process, subsequently delaying the announcement of the party's president.

The first delay announced was 30 minutes after 6pm (the original deadline), but ANC spokesperson Thabo Masebe said the results of the presidential elections between Jacob Zuma and Thabo Mbeki would be delayed depending on whether there are any disputes with the counting process.

"Delegates are going into their commissions now where they will discuss the policy issues. We will meet again at 8:30pm and the results will be released after 9pm," said Masebe.
