Compared to the rest of the world, we are not even close to cheap.
Google fibre is $50(~R765) for 100Mbps where locally it's ~R1200 up, getting close. Plus there are a whole new bunch of content providers coming to SA soon

Yup cheaper and faster, oh wait I had 2meg ADSL in 2008, it's now 8 years later and I still only have 2megs. I think you need to take off your rose coloured glasses and realise that we've stagnated. The private sector is rolling out fibre almost 7 years after Telkom should have started too.
Areas are constantly hit by cable theft, leaving people without communications and Telkom just goes oh well sorry, especially if you don't live in an area that has LTE or other WISP capability.

And 70$ for 1Gbps. Our rand just dropped badly, used to be cheaper.Google fibre is $50(~R765) for 100Mbps where locally it's ~R1200 up, getting close. Plus there are a whole new bunch of content providers coming to SA soon![]()
Yeah, but I still can't go higher speeds so the ~30% price decrease in the last 5 years doesn't allow me to upgrade.I won't dispute that but is communications cheaper today compared to 5 or 10 years ago? YES it is and it the trend is very positive.
