We will make communicating cheaper: ANC government

that is correct minister, all our people who can't access the internet for jobs and information will welcome this.

Is the an echo or are they just repeating the last elections promises?

Well if they are serious they can start by reigning in the providers that want to extort Whatsapp (I'm looking at VC/MTN).

And the less said about Telkom the better.

The same kwa kwa kwa kwa we have heard at the State Of The Nation speeches since Mbeki took over - put your money where your mouth is and open last mile access, implement naked ADSL and scrap line rental !

Telkom and the different municipalities' wi-fi hotspots are increasing every year, we are in the right direction in the urban areas, unfortunately the people who need this the most are still sidelined, that is where government must put in more effort.

It is regrettable that the areas where it is needed most are also the areas where infrastructure are vandalised or destroyed the most. Funding a never-ending expense isn't logical.

Vandalism and sabotage is a problem everywhere unfortunately, even those in urban areas will attest to this, the only difference is that the revenue created in urban areas is more than able to cover the expense of repairs compared to that of rural areas, that's where alternative means of communications which are cost effective and suitable to areas of high theft, vandalism and sabotage comes in, your WCDMA,LTE and other technologies.

Can these cnts just not shutup and get it over and done with. They keep on taking credit for everything that the private sector accomplishes. They're doing fck all and are blocking any innovation and progress from a government point of view, they block and fck everything up. But take credit they will.

20+ years on.. I think people already this ain't gonna happen

Compared to the rest of the world, we are not even close to cheap.

Yup cheaper and faster, oh wait I had 2meg ADSL in 2008, it's now 8 years later and I still only have 2megs. I think you need to take off your rose coloured glasses and realise that we've stagnated. The private sector is rolling out fibre almost 7 years after Telkom should have started too.
Areas are constantly hit by cable theft, leaving people without communications and Telkom just goes oh well sorry, especially if you don't live in an area that has LTE or other WISP capability.
