Web Africa ADSL general feedback

I also got an invoice for August. Gave notice @ the end of June...

Now I'm waiting to see if the password reset works so I can log a ticket..

Edit: Password reset is not happening so I tried to send a ticket. After 20 tries for the Captcha (I kid you not) it still doesn't want to send. Sigh

Jeff, you have a PM.

LOL... Had the same ****...

Send in cancellation, log in to your customer portal, and change a digit in your bank account number :) The numbers aren't sequential, so they won't steal the money from some other guys account. They send me continued invoices for 3 or 4 months (which I promptly just deleted), and eventually stopped.

I don't have the time, energy, or patience to fight with an ISP that can't even process an cancellation. Glad I moved on, have you done so yet? :)

Wow, I'm going to start losing it pretty soon.

After having to phone after them and being on hold for 15 minutes, I eventually chat to the billing department.
"Sorry sir, your data is still active, let me transfer you to the ADSL department" Wait for another 10 minutes, line goes dead.

I phone again, waiting for another 15 minutes going straight to ADSL department.
"Oh, sorry sir, yes I can see everything is logged clearly in black and white, but it wasn't cancelled"
"I have to speak to a manager to cancel the contract and then do any refunds" Click, disconnected! All this from my cell phone.

Sigh, wth!

I cancelled on the 12th of June 2012 already! Why must money get deducted again and then hope and pray they will refund me??

Hi XXXXX

The account would be billed full price as the account will be canceled at the end of July 2012

Should you require any further assistance please let us know."

I got a reply from support (several, actually. you guys may want to make sure that Captcha works properly) and they've assured me that the service will be cancelled by 1 August.

Cheers WA :waves:

I think one thing WA could learn from MWeb is about good forum presence. Jeff and now Justin have a very selective presence on these forums, yet MWeb guy is so active. It seems like most posts that query something to do with MWeb would be responded to, yet when last did Jeff or Justin react to any query (I am too lazy to look back and answer my own question :o) on this forum. For me this earns respect for MWeb and I am sure does a great amount of good for their image.

Just to be fair, WA did contact me and confirmed that the problem was on their side.

They will manually cancel the contract at the end of the month and then do a credit after the debit run ( Not ideal, but at least it will be done )

It's sad it came to this, I've always been very happy with WebAfrica and sang their praises where ever I could. That one support person can make it so sour , is really sad.

Anyway, time to move on.

Me too. Meaning glad that you (and other heavy downloaders) left. Leaves a better network for me to use :)

In all honesty I was never a heavy downloader on Webafrica as I had a 30gb special account. I left for the simple reason that I could no longer complete my work as the network quality was too bad.

I pay a bit more now for an uncapped mweb account without any thresholds or slowdowns for a truely uncapped experience and am very glad I never tried the Webafrica uncapped. Simply put, I am not fooled by what Webafrica try to pass off as uncapped accounts. I now don't worry about my usage and if I had to take a look at it, I would venture a guess and say I am within webafrica's limits on my Mweb account.

Why am I not using Webafrica then you ask?

I don't have to worry about limits because I'm with an ISP that can manage their bandwidth and shaping policies to ensure a better experience for everyone without limiting my line speed to death or asking me to leave if I use a lot.

I honestly think it's just a matter of Webafrica being too small to manage a fully uncapped network for a wide range of users. Their target has now become the users that could have managed just fine on 5-10gb accounts...

My downloads runs about 24/7. During the day it runs slower to keep within my 7 day limit, but when the clock strikes midnight they go to full speed for 6 hours - as this time does not count towards your 7 day limit. By using this 6 hour window optimally I get way more than my limit would suggest.

By my ISP not using archaic rolling windows and throttling (or deprioritizing as WA likes to call it), I get way more with my 384 account than a 1mb customer on WA could probably hope to get.

im picking up large spikes on the link between johannesburg and cape town today.

Ok so I just signed up for a Afrihost 4MB uncapped and all I can say is the difference is night and day. Seriously. You tube videos stream instantly without me having to hit the damn pause button once!

Speedtest.net confirms everything I ever complained about with WA. My DL speed is now 3.69Mbps as opposed to the useless 2.2, 2.1, 2.6 I was getting on WA.

I should have done this a LONG time ago.

The RedAfrica accounts have the lowest priority of all their accounts.
