Web Africa ADSL general feedback

my WA is finally working again as it used to over a month ago, I dunno what changed but I'm glad it did

I've also had slower speeds yesterday & today. It's not completely dead, but it certainly has slowed down on international. It's not all the time either.

Hey folks,

OK, some feedback on the News Server problems. Can you let me know how old the .nzb files are? Our news server retention is set to 140 days - so anything older, will generally be slower and seen as "uncached"
Can we run some tests and see?

If there are slow speeds, please FW the .nzb file onto [email protected] so we can test the files on our end.

Thanks Jeff. Very helpful and think that my DL's this morning were a good few hundred days old.

Will certainly give this feedback in future

For me your news server is a serious plus for me (and the DL+ times) so would really be sad to see a problem in either of these areas

Same here. :)

OK, some feedback on the News Server
The NS appears to be a little sick at the moment. Logs are full of this:
2011-12-06 13:25:18,703::INFO::[newswrapper:223] Failed to connect: (10060, "(10060, 'Operation timed out')") [email protected]:119
2011-12-06 13:25:34,733::INFO::[downloader:607] Thread [email protected]:119: timed out

Its still pulling content...just a bit patchy.

I crunched the logs a bit. It follows a distinct pattern:

0 0.21092564491654
1 0.0359941944847605
2 0.147982062780269
3 0.0910326086956522
4 0.0712765957446809
5 0.117866004962779
6 0.122058823529412
7 0.256970610399397
8 0.375019040365575
9 0.377201662378785
10 0.380402806064721
11 0.376910699919549
12 0.370337477797513
13 0.353432282003711
14 0.372948128693368
15 0.351641791044776
16 0.314285714285714

17 0.183150183150183
18 0.0477815699658703
19 0.222222222222222
20 0.24282982791587
21 0.205673758865248
22 0.0588235294117647
23 0.170918367346939

Meaning that between 08:00 and 17:00 the number of time outs as a percentage of logs writes shoots sky-high. This suggests that either network load from business traffic or shaping rules are the cause.:o

Having the same poor speeds on my WA Titan account to the news server. Switched to WA Prepaid Local account and it flies!?

I just tried one that is 0.2 days old and it didn't even download, it was "downloading" as if the articles were corrupted. I'll forward the NZB to your support guys to investigate.

Meanwhile my paid international Usenet service is crawling along at 10 kB/s. Thank goodness for my Afrihost backup account which i running at full speed.

I'm glad to report back that everything is running smoothly today. Gaming excellent .. pings to overseas gaming servers about 200 ms odd and even less.. did get some packet-loss, but not enough to disrupt anything.
Also downloaded some stuff over HTTP.. and speeds were fine.

At about 21:00 last night, I tried to DL a file that was a few hours old, and managed 2 to 4 kbs before I gave up and scheduled the files to DL in DL+ time. I gave the info to support as per Jeff request and have to say I was not too impressed with their response.

My DL’s were as follows this morning
12: 395 megs
1: 335 megs
2: 432 megs
3: 757 megs and
4: 339 megs

On my line I should be able to DL 2 gigs per hour. All these files were less than a day old. Prior to a few weeks ago, I would normally be working at between 95% and 100% capacity most of the time. Things have really dropped off - maybe uncapped and a whole lot more people using DL+ time? Maybe other issues.

Come on WA please could this be sorted out as this really is one of your strong points

yeah me too. since the uncapped came into play, i have been affected too. normally i get full speed on anything. could stream 720p and 1080p wireless from bbc.

For the Uncapped customers, I've provided an update on the official thread
http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...ped-Feedback?p=7358175&viewfull=1#post7358175

That's all great for uncapped but you have not addressed any concerns raised here. You told us uncapped would not impact on capped when uncapped was introduced but now we are having problems.

I hate making assumptions but must we assume that as you address the capacity issue for uncapped that us capped users will see an improvement?

We really would appreciate your feedback. I know you have been busy with various issues and maybe that is why you have not answered concerns raised

I would like to add my voice of complaint to all the others. My WA account has been snail-slow the last month. So slow in fact, I haven't been able to use all my DL+ data last month. DATA THAT I HAVE PAID FOR AND NOW LOST! This is simply unacceptable. It is grossly unfair that the capped customers have to be penalised like this. Capped accounts should get priority over uncapped accounts, seeing as WE PAY FOR EVERY BYTE OF DATA!

Why can Afrihost offer uncapped accounts without degrading the speeds of their capped customers? This is my speed downloading a file on WA after 12am :
showphoto.php

This is the same file on my AH account :
showphoto.php

It has been like this for the last month :( I mean, seriously?

+1

I an having intermittent download issues for the whole day now. Clicking on a link often give a website not found error or just grindgrindgrind...

Quoting from the thread above:
The sign-ups exceeded our expectations by almost three fold, along with a capacity upgrade delay that is not in our control.

How does this impact on capped users? At one stage I had a single download going and it kept bombing. Eventually gave up and will have to attempt somewhere else because it is eating my cap.

While trying to post this.

I have just spoken to WA and been told there are capacity problems on their network since the launch of the uncapped services. Apparently it is only effecting RedAfrica users.

I am giving WebAfrica till the end of the month to resolve this. I am getting an absolutely awesome deal with them but at the moment it is just not working and I reply on my internet connection to generate my monthly income.

I am on my Afrihost account for now but will see what happens to WebAfrica by the end of the month.

sigh...
