Web Africa ADSL general feedback

Hi Justin

After 17:00 there is a massive increase in speed. During DL+ times it has been running pretty much full steam.

My issue is that I have a capped account and whilst I know that for it to run 100% speed during office hours is unlikely, to be running at 40kbs is just plain shocking. I have a capped account.

This is an issue WA had a good few months ago and then you did some changes to profiles and all was good for a while, but it seems that has changed.

Will see what happens later today

Why are you still with them?

NNTP is "filed" under peer-to-peer protocols, which is listed as a best effort service.

Jeff I am assuming this is your response to my query

Yes I know it is a best effort service and if 40kbs is a best effort, it really says a lot about the service. Also it is amazing how after 17:00, the effort is so much better.

Anyway I am not going to rehash previous discussion as I can tell that this is something which more than likely is not going to change and guess it was one of those things WA had sorted for a while, but not anymore

Obviously after hours it'll get quicker.
NNTP is not a must have, imperative protocol during office hours. After hours, once browsing traffic and any other day to day, needed traffic had died down NNTP will naturally get faster.

Regardless, I'll still bring this up with our Network guys however our prioritisation profiles are in place to ensure our network runs smoothly, I doubt protocols that sit under P2P will be prioritised on the same levels as browsing for example.

WA just died??

Thank goodness for the guys at Afrihost with their 1GB for free for life account!
Very handy backup for times like this (and at the end of the month) :)

Down in Paulshof, Jhb.

Line speeds (initially 1mb), but stable, seemed to have dipped from Friday.

Now nothing.

Am close to giving up.

It appears to be related to the Telkom portion of our network. We are working with Telkom Engineers to get it back up asap. Sorry about this guys. Updates will be provided on our status page.
